I think the geek tech stuff is

For those who can't read.

Trimmer. Note the protection gear!

Lawn mover.
Why not a lawn mower without an engine? A cheaper alternative that provides free exercise, is pleasantly quiet and emission-free when used.

Flymo. Had one once:)

Here is what you use when trimming a lawn.

For those that just want to be, well, irritable.

Picture 1 is of a Petrol driven Grass Strimmer/Brushcutter - usually two stroke.

Picture 2 was old fashioned in 1900.

Picture 3 is clearly a scythe. Again went out with the ark. And that is not a lawn it is scrubland. A lawn is this.

2.
Push mowers have no engine and are usually used on smaller lawn areas where access is a problem, where noise pollution is undesirable and where air pollution is unwanted.

In the spring I try to mow the lawn in a crisscross
pattern, and I keep that up all summer. It ends up
looking like a diamond pattern. Not bad for a sick
old man. My neighbours remark: "There goes Old Man
Russell mowing his grass sideways again."

You think thats funny, I have a guy across the street we call (not appropriate word) Lawn guy, two or three times a week you can see him out on the lawn with HAND SCISSORS making sure it's perfect..... Another time he printed and hand delivered letters to everyone in the nabourhood about kids on bikes riding on his lawn. Scarry stuff....
