I always thought that Kmart here was originally started by Coles, but I just learnt that it was started in partnership with Kresge, though Coles did buy eventually Kresge out.

Now days both Coles and Kmart are owned by Wesfarmers.

Mergers and acquisitions over the years have been crazy for everybody, not to mention "re-branding" and marketing. I still get annoyed about KFC. It's Kentucky Fried Chicken, but the bucket and the finger lickin' good slogan are gone.
