Message 1856691 - Posted: 20 Mar 2017, 0:08:16 UTC - in response to Message 1856587.

Greetings Zoom314

Sorry to hear about the water cooling hiccup but glad to hear you are on track to getting up and running again.

Thankyou for your thread. I have found it very informative on what to do and what not.

I would say some of us around here do thing the hard way cause we want to know if it can be done. It's human nature.

Keep it up and crunch away

You're welcome, I've got the PC up and running, Seti too.

I've got more to restore, but not tonight.

Quite an adventure and always good to learn!

Zoom onwards :-)

Keep searchin
Martin

Thanks Martin.

Ok I got My PC back online, and some new parts have arrived, like a replacement cabling and circuit board for My PC, this one a rev2 that is totally keyed, the current one has a connector for usb2.0 there that can be reversed on one end, while the other end of the USB2.0 cable is keyed.

Soon I will be installing that, probably during the next outage on Tuesday.

I also got in a small 8" long 2pin fan extension cable, cause one 2pin cable that plugs the LEDs in is too short, and always becomes disconnected when I pull the top of the case off.

Then there is a Fluidmaster Toilet fill valve and flapper, one toilet here leaks water into the overflow, now I just need to find someone who can install that properly.

Now I got a Corsair A540 case at the Post Office to pickup, and a 280mm hex grill, plus there are four NEW 525GB SSD's, and a Koolance 120/140mm fan adapter are on the way here.

The SSD's were a steal... And everything mentioned here is NEW...

Except the photons on this page, I'm pretty sure they're used.

And that's $11.59 each, eat your heart out guys, I'd gotten a check in to reimburse Me for some of My electricity that I used, under the Liheap program, all $343.00 worth.

I also used some to help pay down a credit card too.

I don't pay interest on my credit cards because I can't afford to, I live on a fixed income, I pay them off every month. The lower your income is the less you can afford interest.

That should be a Corsair Carbide Series Air 540 High Airflow ATX Cube Case - Black , instead of a Corsair A540 case, missed the time limit, that will replace a CoolerMaster HAF-X case, which is really only good for Air or Custom water cooling, not so much for a hybrid setup, not without a fan grill that might or might now work, plus extra screws, nuts and a few washers.

Now the Corsair cased EVGA P55 FTW will only need a cpu cooler, and I should be able to get that Win 7 Pro x64 system online, at least once I've bought a few heatsinks for a video card(for the ram and vrms), and maybe buy some 6-32 screws, lock washers and nuts for another card.

The 4820K cpu is doing ok, on water it's running at about 65C(idle is at about 35C), though if I delidded the cpu(removed the IHS, Integrated Heat Spreader), and applied some better heatsink compound, instead of the Intel supplied junk, I could lower the cpu temp some more, yeah the i7 4820K and 4930K cpu's IHS are not soldered down, unlike on the 4960X, which is soldered down, and expensive, not to mention hard to find. It's just a matter of slowly and carefully slicing through the black adhesive that attaches the IHS to the cpu(and avoiding any damage to the core, or you have a keyring instead), the core only has cheap heatsink compound connecting the core to the IHS. I have 5 single edge blades here for that.

Well it was the only feasible way to get a credit score, so I could maybe get a mortgage or move this mobile home of mine elsewhere to its own land.

Yes that will build up your credit score and to max it out use it every month and pay it off every month. For example charge that tank of gas instead of paying cash and then use the cash to pay it off the next month.

Ok, I got a few parts in one from Koolance, a custom 280x140 type radiator fan grill, why? To mod My Azza 9000B case.
I'd ordered all this stuff before I started having car trouble, struts that only last 6-9 months, go figure...

This Koolance part is Heavy Metal, may as well be made of Kryptonite, it's a 120/140mm fan adapter.

This is the grill, not much there, custom made out of plastic, hex holes, pretty.

Then there is this Corsair Carbide Air 540 case, got it used off of Amazon, it's in pretty good shape, it's to house the EVGA P55 FTW motherboard, since the HAF-X is not really Hybrid friendly beyond 1 card. And even though the pic doesn't show it, the case can fit under the overhead cabinet with about 1" of space to spare.

As I said, it fits, with room to spare too.

I've had 9 power outages here today, lots of wind, and dust, should be gone by 11pm PST, I hope.

It certainly doesn't feel like a year since you had to replace the struts on your car - that is a VERY short life given you do not do vast mileage, drive on generally "fair" roads and do not hoon it around bends - the struts on my 2.75tonne monster, have lasted 140k miles so far, that gets some serious abuse both in terms of road conditions and speed of travel and show no sign of aging. I would suspect that your were either sold ***p parts or they were badly fitted.
You have a serious health issue that needs to be sorted, and have now had to postpone a procedure for an undefined period of time because you cannot get to the hospital. This is a very bad situation to be in, effectively no money left to repair you car for more than a month, and to be in need of said car to get you to that vital appointment :-( It is certainly time to stop and think about your priorities, I would put looking after your health way above anything else.

Issue 1 - It could well be that Vic's excessive weight of 400lbs plus didn't help the struts.

Issue 2 - He has been offered free funds to pay for private transport to and from the op but he refuses to accept it.

Issue 3 - As a single bachelor on his own, Vic's only interest in life is his computers and talking incessantly about them.

Issue 4 - Unfortunately he doesn't have the expertise to build them, and messes around with water cooling he doesn't need and can't get to work.

But he won't be helped or take any advice. But this is supposed to be a computer build thread, not a weblog of his life.

Agreed in most part, but it is his thread, and if he wishes to make it a weblog of his daily adventures, it is up to you and I to read or not to read it.
End of line.

Anything I ordered, was ordered before the car gave a hint of any trouble, at least a week in fact.

The case, toilet fill valve, and 4 SSD's, plus 2 cables for this PC, the Koolance adapter, and the 280mm grill(I need a drill for the last two):
Order placed(See pic below)
March 20, 2017

Now when did the struts go? March 27th
https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=80314&postid=1858034#1858034

The car can handle Me it has a gross weight rating far higher than My weight, it's a '1999 Ford Escort zx2 sport hot coupe', go look it up ya busy body.

And if I were to get stranded, 43 miles from home? I can't exactly walk very far, and no relatives would be around, My sister in law is gone to France and Italy. And I do have anxiety issues, plus hailing a cab here could be expensive, and this isn't exactly bloody London...

And I have a leaky toilet, the current toilet valve leaks thru the overflow only, I just need someone who can get down on their knees, since this is a simple thing to install.

BS, I have expertise, I have built more than My share since 1980, I've also cleaned PC's of malware, installed drivers(though not on one ancient 486, which was a friends PC, I saved a lot of His PCs there, His employees visited websites in their work), I just don't have a lot of energy to do so with anymore, so it takes longer.

Then why are you posting here? Hmm??

Weblog, you do know, this is My thread, Don't you??

I wish the roads were fair here, cracked, and sealed with tar or whatever it is the crews use, then slurried over with an oil/sand mixture that resembles asphalt, but is cheaper, I stay within the speed limits generally, yes I think they are bad parts just like you mentioned, though it's too late to get a refund and at the time I was lead to believe they were in fact good parts, drat.

The repairs will get done.

It's a bladder blockage w/some bleeding from time to time by the prostate, not exactly life threatening.

The pain from the cysts is manageable with pills, and is something to be done after the bladder, when they don't know, since it's not in My hands.

Now this will be the end of this here, as this is Number crunching, not Cafe.

Vic, while in their current state both these problems are not life threatening they can very rapidly become life threatening. Either of these can trigger serious urinary tract infections, which in a matter of HOURS can lead to one's heart being affected, and if not treated very rapidly .....

So, when you get your car back on the road start to plan for what else might stop you getting the treatment you need for all your health issues - that means an improved diet and transport you can rely on.

I will, I take My health as seriously as I can, I might laugh for other things, but not that, even if I do have a long life expectancy, based on My relatives.

I wonder what would be the rac on that server...

If you have to ask, you can't afford it.

but i can dream, i don't like reality that much...

i also wonder if they will ever allow us to have boinc on playstation 4's and xbox ones... it's a shame...

Me neither, it tends to bite Me in the back...

Just getting on a weatherization waiting list to replace 3 windows, 2 doors, and an old gas central air heating/cooling system, was hard, sending the paperwork was easy, their main objection, that I had no broken windows that obviously leak air and heat, just like My current old windows do, through metal frames that bulge and don't seal anymore, and that leak heat in and out through those same metal frames(aluminum).

You might check for a leakage problem like my computer room has. Aluminum frame windows. When the lower pane was raised to install a windows air conditioner, there was an open slot about 0.5 inches from front to back, and nearly the width of the window, left between the lower pane frame and the glass of the upper frame, and also between the upper pane frame and the glass of the lower pane. This causes strange behavior of the air conditioner's thermostat when it is set to heat.

I asked for a fix over a week ago; not done yet and no word on whether it is even still planned. I've seen a type of bubble wrap with bubbles about an inch in diameter; if I can get enough of that type, I plan to cut strips of it, fold them so that the flat layer is on the outside, then stuff them in the space between the upper frame andthe glass of the lower frame. This should at least be something easily removable in the future.

All My big windows are sliders, of those 3 are aluminum framed, the place that said they'd be out in March, never came, I called, but they didn't get back to Me, and yes those aluminum framed windows are all bowed, air and insects come in, as they do thru the front door, a metal skinned wooden door, that changes the distance lock is out of alignment with the bolt hole, sometimes I just need to turn the key, other times I have to pull on the door knob to lock and unlock the at door.

I was given an estimate for $2,500.00 to replace that warping front door once by the Home Depot, the 3 windows would need about $1,030.00 total to replace them. I didn't ever ask about the back door, it works, even if it does let light thru it in the morning.

I have one small window, but it's a hand cranked window in a bathroom, otherwise it's all sliders here.

I managed to unhook the pc from the external cables, and get the EVGA X79 DARK out, I noted that the Cooler Master 240L pump was at times making noise on startup, which I'm told is normal, so it could be the motherboard is having a problem that asus could probably fix, but the warranty is long gone, so I may sell the ASUS RIVE x79 motherboard and the i7 3820 cpu, as is.

Alphacool has yet to respond, but they seem to be in Germany, so maybe next week I'll try again.

I just got off the phone with Azzatek customer support, the 9000 has two 4 pin cables, the problem is Azzatek can't identify them, they aren't power related, and they aren't usb 2.0 either or usb 3.0 for that matter, I guess I'm on My own on that.

You might check if they happen to be Molex connectors. Here are some pictures of cables with a Molex connector at one end and sometimes also at the other end:
https://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=molex+cable&N=-1&isNodeId=1

Molex cables are normally used only as power cables inside computers.

Also, I found some articles about that motherboard on the EVGA site:

You might check if they happen to be Molex connectors. Here are some pictures of cables with a Molex connector at one end and sometimes also at the other end:
https://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=molex+cable&N=-1&isNodeId=1

Molex cables are normally used only as power cables inside computers.

Also, I found some articles about that motherboard on the EVGA site:

http://www.evga.com/search/default.asp?q=EVGA+X79+DARK&cx=014337301843790414019%3Apy8wwgq6yv0&cof=FORID%3A11%3BNB%3A1&ie=UTF-8&sa=

I traced the unknown cable ends, they're usb, in any case the board they plug into is a rev 1.0 board, the new board is a revision 2.0, the white connector was changed, now it's keyed everywhere. Cost? $16.00 w/shipping. This is an AZZA part, the white connector replaced a non-keyed connector. And I got the two front bolts off the top of the case.

Vic as ugly as it is duct tape could help a bit.

Yeah, I already taped 2 of the windows, the other 1 was taped when I'd bought the place, and that window I left alone since it's in a bedroom that I don't use for more than storage, back then I wanted some air circulation, not knowing why they were taped shut.

Ok using a new small Phillips screwdriver(Red) that I got for nothing from Amazon via Bing, it would have cost Me $1.84 for both, since it came with an equally small flat blade(Green).

In any case I removed two more bolts, so the top is free, now for the back two screws, then I can replace a cable, and fix a power connection.

Small aren't they?
