Hang in there.

This is quite a story for putting so many machines together. A lack of comment doesn't mean a lack of interest.

Note the views count? (36000+ ...!)

Just a thought:

For all the combined wisdom we have on this forum, is there a "s@h crunching" guide anywhere?

Happy cool crunchin',

Many people have been reading your thread, myself include. It is one of only two threads that I always read in the Seti forums. Not responding does not mean a lack of interest. Please keep going.

Lets see, there hasn't been anything new to post, My car is on My mind, and I suppose I need to remove the Corsair H70 cpu cooler from the Dark and install the Corsair H70 on the P55 FTW, then install the Cooler Master R1 Glacer in the Dark, the R2 has the better hoses, I still haven't replaced the hoses yet 5/8"OD 3/8"ID is what they take plasticizer problem, I did get some "UV Red" Primochill anti-kink coils in, something I'd ordered before the drivers seat ratchet broke, now the seat is almost fully reclined, instead of upright, My hands are still hurting, but back to the anti-kink coils, they might say "UV Red", but to Me they look more like "Hot Pink", they were going to go with some new black tubing and some Monsoon compression fittings, since the Cooler Master fittings look cheaply made, though I hadn't thought on whether to get the Monsoons in Red or Matte Black.

On the car I have front tires to install, rear struts, light brake work to cure a problem with dust and the drivers seat.

Then after the car is what popped up recently on the real estate market, My Brothers old house, yeah I'm suspending a lot of stuff just to go after that(just not the car, that will take until Feb 2017 I think), the Thermaltake X9 case and a few GTX1070 cards will have to wait, newegg on ebay or not, but it will give Me some time to evaluate whether the Corsair n970 will mount to the 1070 card or not(I have three Corsair n970 adapters), probably not, but right now only Nvidia knows how the 1070 differs from the physical layout of the 970 card.

I should be ready for the mobile home by sometime between Jan 2018 and Dec 2018(these don't sell fast, I've been watching one that still hasn't sold in close to a year), it's a 1344sqft mobile home on its own land(2 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms), that is 24'x56' in size, the lot is 7200sqft and the area is about 6-15F cooler than here in the summer, winter, well the area is right up against the mountains almost, temp here is 88F(100F) & sunny(forecast 90F's to 100F), there is 86F(89F) & partly sunny(forecast 80F's). The price? $56,500.00, but that after a home inspection is possibly negotiable.

Better for crunching really, a smaller cooling bill, not as ideal as the Big Bear area in the mountains, but not as Pricey either, of course the roads suck in spots, but the City gets to them as quickly as it can.

Oh and if one gets SSI/SSP(State Supplemental Payment, this bill will effect the SSP only) in CA, there is a bill in the State Senate named AB-1584, that if passed, will raise the check in 2017 to 96% of Poverty, in 2018 and thereafter to 100% of poverty, in 2016 the Poverty line is $11,880.00 a year, in 2015 it was $11,770.00 a year, so that will help, though until the Senate passes this bill, like the CA Assembly did(76-0, 4 not voting, 2 Demo, 2 Repub, bathroom or cig break or even just eating maybe), then there is Gov Brown, if He signs this or there is enough votes to back Him into a corner, then AB-1584 will become law in California, a bipartisan one at that. And that is all I'll say on 1584, I don't want the thread moved elsewhere.

Ok, now I don't know who knows this or not (plus I am on the phone so I can't look up stuff), anyway I read recently that xeon 1600 v1 and v2 cpus are unlocked, like the 1650 v2. But not the 2000 series cpus, they're locked for sure.

I'm back from My Barstow errand, plus I now have $16.00(in dollar coins), it was $10.00 a couple of days ago,
in My temp savings(Mayo Jar, cleaned of course), why? I'm saving up for expenses
related to moving, down payment on a house, Electric and Water Utility Deposits,
or about $2,500.00, which will I think take Me 2 years to do, plus pay down
3 credit cards, since I have someone in mind that wants to move too, but that is for another time...
She did say yes to moving and sharing ownership as well as expenses, Her and I paying half the mortgage each is good.

This was My Brothers place from 2000-2004, I'd found it for Him, He'd intended it to be His last gift to Me,
it's for sale now, it'll take about 2yrs to save up for, I have another place
I'm watching that hasn't sold that needs fixing that I should be able to get, just in case(next pic).

This place needs TLC, plus solar(all electric, no gas bill, it has gas, I just don't want gas),
the floor in the Kitchen is missing, plus flooring(Kitchen, Dining and Living room), needs new
paint inside and out, new roof(Metal), new ground source heatpump, new electric
water heater, new dual pane vinyl windows, new smooth surface electric range,
new dishwasher, new clothes washer and electric clothes dryer, some electrical
work for the new electrical appliances...
Plus landscaping in fake grass(keeping the evergreens), maybe adding some drip irrigation, maybe.
This place has 3 bedrooms, and 2 bathrooms, is a 1,456sqft house on a 7,420sqft lot and is $34,500.00.
Plus maybe ditching the swamp cooler on the roof...

Ok I do have an update, I put the Intel i7 4820K cpu on the EVGA X79 Dark motherboard,
but when I took the Corsair H70 off the motherboard, I lost a part, a small
black plastic part, I looked around could not locate it, the part is needed to
mount the H70 block on the cpu, so instead I've hooked up the Cooler Master Glacer
240L R1* cpu cooler, I need to find two Delta fans, plus I need to find the
screws for the swiftech made radiator, it's that or buy the screws, until then
it sits on the shelf, out of reach of Grace, My cat.

*= R1 has bad hoses, R2 does not have plasticizer issues.

Now I don't know if EVGA will make a GTX1060 Hybrid card or not, but someone already has, though as the videos say, it was just out of curiosity.

Building a GTX 1060 Hybrid Part: 1 Tear-Down
Building a GTX 1060 Hybrid Part: 2 Assembly
Building a GTX 1060 Hybrid Part: 3 Results

Note: Each video is about 25 mins long.

The kit He uses is for a GTX 980 Ti(Made by EVGA of course), though one for a Titan or a GTX 980 would also work, at least after one does some filing or grinding on the square hole in the GTX 1060 frame.

I do wish I could get a 1060, as this sounds interesting.

This guy always scares me when he does this builds. (as in what not to do)

At least he finally got the right tools this time.

What I've noticed is there is now a metal projection superior to the chip (this isn't the case with other GPUs in that series) I wonder if EVGA did that to prevent people from attaching hybrid coolers to the GPUs

As such, he is forced to mount the hybrid as he did, otherwise he could have mounted like I did for the 1080.

It's interesting to see the shroud is 1 piece instead of 3 separate pieces (I think they were trying to save some money)

Maybe, I don't know, Nvidia designed the 1060 FE, I'm hoping EVGA will make a 1060 Hybrid anyway, buying one right now by Me is just impossible, what I have now in My PC, I slowed down to just keep the heat output down somewhat, 300w vs 120w, quite a difference in heat, My a/c can't keep up easily, today it was 114F outside, now the temp 111F is outside, it's 86F near the PC, I'm only able to tolerate the heat cause I have a floor fan on full power aimed at Me, I also had the PC in sleep mode twice today, even if it is partly cloudy outside too.

I searched to see if Corsair will be making a 1060 version of the n970, I should have bought three used n980 versions I think, even though the form factor looks possibly do able, but I don't know for sure, or how much modding the n970 would need to fit on a 1060 FE, plus there is the 6pin plug, which is on a cable, instead of on the pcb like on the 970, but so I've seen nothing, maybe it's too early yet, so far I've seen just 2 pairs of hybrids, 2 from EVGA in 1080 and 1070 cards and 2 from MSI in the same type of cards as EVGA.

The videos do show the potential of a water cooled 1060, particularly when the gpu is stressed, sure games to a point stress the gpu, but Seti is much worse, I see the possibility of 900MHz down clocks, since Seti pushes a gpu pretty hard. Water cooling should help, but then there is just 1 6pin pcie connector, instead of 2 on the 970.

Ok back to one of My builds, I got two Koolance 120x25mm fans attached, with
4-XSPC 6-32 30mm screws, which thanks to some Bing searches over about 2 months,
cost Me $0.00, I cashed the Bing search in at 475 points to get an Amazon card
worth $5.00, the 8 screws had FREE shipping and no sales tax for $4.95 total. :)

Right after I took the pic, I had to rush off...

I know what case this PC will get, it's a Corsair Carbide Series Air 540 case, why?
Also the case can hold a 240 or a 280 in the top, and up to a 360 in the front.

Cause it will hold 4-120mm aio video cards, and 1-240mm cpu radiator, plus Newegg has them for $145.11 delivered to My location. :)

I found this on Facebook(Michael Lopez, He gave Me the ok to repost His pic here), He uses the Corsair Air 540 case with 3-GTX980Ti cards and 1-GTX1080, Can you spot the 1080? LOL
And like Me, He has either an X79 or an X99 of some sort, no I didn't ask, still a good pic to make a point with.

It's an Asus x99e ws.

If you zoom in on the CPU you can see the name of the board

But those boards can be tricky

Missed that Zalster, thanks, I can't afford an x99, the x79's, an x58, and an P55 that I have will just have to do(2 Asus and 2 EVGA).

Today I'm lucky to have gotten the X79 Dark closer to testing the 4820K cpu(in stock form) and the Cooler Master Glacer R1 240L cpu cooler, once I find that the cpu and cooler both work, then I get to mod the cpu with new heatsink compound between the cpu core and the integrated heat spreader(that means I get to carefully cut the IHS from the rest of the cpu, you can only do this on the 4820K and the 4930K, Intel used solder everywhere else, so except for these two cpus, don't do this to any other cpus. If you do this(mod is on youtube under 4820K cpu mod), be careful with the knife or you'll destroy the core with the knife blade), since Intel put some cheap heatsink(thermal) compound in there that almost doesn't work I've read, this applies to the 4930K cpu too.

I can't use the Corsair H70 cpu cooler like last time(the 4820K might be a bit much in stock form for the H70), since I lost a plastic part that holds one of the 4 cpu screws in place, and helps to hold a corner down, I'll have to get another Asetek 2011 ring retainer kit to get that part, there goes another $11.00 eventually. Sigh...

This weekend it's up and crunching with 2 GTX 550Ti's in it.

Cheers.
