I tried everything... But it doestn't work.. I make the settings for the work profile (run always), then switch a node to work, then update seti in BOINC gui, and nothing happens... it says no separate settings for home, using your default... Pls, help me... :( <b>X</b> |

There are some bugs that currently prevent the separate venue settings from working at all. I am not certain if the web site is losing the venue for a host anymore or not, I haven't tried recently. On the first connection the venue is loaded on the host after it is reported that it should be attached to the previous venue. The next update should pick up the venue change. BOINC WIKI |

Hi I´ve all my three machines set at different locations and it works so far. The only thing is you have to switch the the configuration you want to use on that machine who want to run it with. You can not switch the location on host "A" for host "B". greetz Mike With each crime and every kindness we birth our future. |

It could be that the client needs to AUTOMATICALLY connect before the settings are updated. Manual updates don't work. I'll post back after the next auto-update...which should be later this evening. Here is what i have done and it worked: First: Select the host on the webpage and change the venue. (say: school) Second: Exit your BOINC Client (no suspend realy quit!) Third: Edit your Client_State.xml search for host_venue you should find: [host_venue]home[/host_venue] If not then add the line at the bottom just before [/client_state] and enter your choosen venue (school, work, home) Fourth: Start your BOINC Client and check the first messages they should look like: 2005-01-06 10:47:42 - Starting BOINC client version 4.13 for windows_intelx86 2005-01-06 10:47:42 - Project prefs: no separate prefs for school; using your defaults 2005-01-06 10:47:42 - Host ID is 353379 2005-01-06 10:47:42 - General prefs: from SETI@home (last modified 2005-01-02 12:28:27) 2005-01-06 10:47:42 - General prefs: using separate prefs for school Note: replace [ and ] with less than and greater than symbols BOINC Doc | Team-Site | BOINC-Podcast |

Along these lines, I did what BobbaFet described and I got similar messages after restarting BOINC. I have my general pefs set for 1 processor, but for home I want to use 2. I changed the setting for my home prefs before adding the [host_venue] info, but the computer still only uses 1 cpu. Does anyone know of a way to control the number of cpus on a per machine or per venue basis? |

I'm not keen on editing any xml files, as I don't want to have to edit the xml files for every single system I own. I guess I'll wait for the 4.5x client then. You will be assimilated...bunghole! |

I believe the problem is fixed in the 4.5x clients. There are also reports that if you manually edit the client_state.xml to put the proper venue in it will work. BOINC WIKI BOINCing since 2002/12/8 |

This could take a while because its done when requesting new work. BOINC Doc | Team-Site | BOINC-Podcast |

I have changed the XML file and restarted boinc and it works great. I had a problem with not getting enough work because it said the computer was only on 16% of the time but it really runs 100% of the time. I also changed that in the file and now recieve enough work to crunch. Thanks. |

Thanks. > good point. i ran into the same thing. i had installed BOINC while the seti servers were down, but since there was no work to get i left the client off. when the servers came back up, i couldn't get any work because of that "computer is on only 9%" message. that was also a bit misleading since the computer was on 100%; the client was off. |
