Hi team I am running SETi on a Macbook pro (running Yosemite) with no problems whatsoever. i just got out of the keyboard a mac mini collecting dust and decided to add it to the SETI home Network. the Mac mini is an intel Core Duo running MAC OS 10.6.8. i installed BOINC on it again without problem but since march 1st the Boinc manager refuses to add any projects always telling me to try later. Help much appreciated. |

Making sure we're talking about the same thing here, we call Seti@Home the project, just as there are ClimatePrediction.net, Einstein@Home, Primegrid and World Community Grid. Are you talking about those when you mean project? If so, which project(s) are you trying to add? Have you checked at those projects their web sites/forums if there is information about their status? Or do you mean that BOINC can't get work from seti@Home? We call those tasks, or work units. The project has some problems with its database off late which results in it running out of work at times. Everyone running Seti@Home then has the problem that they can't get (enough) work. |

Hi jord, thank you for replying. yes indeed I mean BOINC cannot add SETI. I have SETi running on another machine and tasks are being exchanged with the server with no problem. On the Mac MINI running mac OS X 10.6.8 on which i just installed BOINC. BOINC does not add SETI. i tried other projects randomly with the same result. In short BOINC installed on a Intel mac mini running Mac os x 10.6.8 and i cant add projects as per your email. i am interested in SETI thank you |

Do you get an error message when trying to attach SETI to that machine? Anything that can help us troubleshoot the problem to help you better? |

Hi Team. I have an extensive SOHO network comprising several access points all connected to a 4G LTE wireless broadband network. it works well. I have throughout the network several computers dedicated to BOINC A makbook pro 2 Lenovo Win laptops 1 Asus laptop running a hackintosh wherever these computers are on the network they RUN BOINC SETI/Einstein and Milkyway properly with no issues. As posted previously , i tried to add an INTEL mac MINI running Mac OS X 10.6.8. BOINC installs properly but i cannot add any projects. Given the topography of the network i believe the issue is with the MAC MINI (i.e. not an access issue, not a firewall issue, etc) When i try to add a project on the MAC MINI, i get a notice saying that BOINC cannot connect to the INTERNET. I checked the Mac MINI firewall (which is off), the PROXY settings (NONE USED). The Mac Mini has internet access (sites open normally). the only explicit message i get is in the Event log saying [Network Status}: need connection Can it be a host file issue or something related (please note that in the BOINC manager window i do see the message "Connected to localhost") Any idea is much appreciated, looking forward to a dying more processing power to BOINC regards to all |

The BOINC binary requires an open port through any firewall on TCP ports 80 and 443 in order to be able to communicate with the projects. Even under Windows when you disable the firewall, it'll still stay on as else the most nastiest nasties can easily creep onto the computer. I'm willing to bet the same thing happens with the Mac. So just re-enable the firewall and instead add BOINC as am exclusion for ports 80 and 443. |
