LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The deadly Asian earthquake may have permanently accelerated the Earth's rotation -- shortening days by a fraction of a second -- and caused the planet to wobble on its axis, U.S. scientists said on Tuesday. http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=oddlyEnoughNews&storyID=7200192 reuters |

From the US Geological Survey site; change in length of day: -2.676 microseconds "Since the length of the day can be measured with an accuracy of about 20 microseconds, this model predicts that the change in the length-of-day caused by the earthquake is much too small to be observed." Somehow the human race will pull itself through this. Too bad we can't be like this all the time. Why does it take a disaster of this magnitude to bring out the best in us, and for some the worse. [b]Anyway, I haven't noticed any difference in the rotation of this planet. I suppose it would be more noticable near the poles. Anybody from Antartica posting? Account frozen... |
