Kris and I had a surprise visitor today. How he found his way into the bedroom, and moreover, how he avoided Fuzzy's keen eye is a mystery. The Visitor After our little visit, I escorted our young friend way out into the field and sent him on his way. |

Well at least ya know the snakes name. ;) Might be a garden snake, but I'm no expert, so I can't say for sure on this. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

Was that in your back garden Angela??? What the heck was that, Jeebus, I'd have been half way to San Fran had I seen that! I'm sure they only come indoors at night time to keep warm. Member of the People Encouraging Niceness In Society club. |

Looks like it might be a Garter snake. If so, don't bother it and it won't bother you. Its nice to have in the yard because you don't have to worry about mice or rats. |

I just learned the date is off, Mary can't afford a dinner out this month, though if I have enough next month I may just cook a spaghetti dinner, or if I don't, I'll put it on the CreditOne Visa card that I was approved for while online Tuesday, that's if I meet with the final approval of course, otherwise I'd just have to think of some other way to pay for the dinner. Oh and Mary's dog Charlie(a Mountain Cur) likes Me, that's a neat dog too. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

I believe that Mister Slithers was a gopher snake. We have both garter and gopher snakes in our area. Mister Slithers was quite a large one. I am not at all afraid of snakes and I found Mister Slithers to be quite beautiful. That picture was taken in our front yard. Sadly, gopher snakes are not so named because they eat gophers, which we have in great abundance here. They are called gopher snakes because they like to hang out in gopher holes. @Vic - You should definitely cook for Mary. Women love men who cook!!! Eric cooked pasta for me for one of our early dates. It was angel hair pasta with smoked salmon, chives, lemon zest and a light cream sauce and it was delicious. On a later date, he made me stir fry... which was really more of a braise, but still good. Little did I know the man was a "two dish wonder!!!" |

Your view is better than mine but it seems that Garter snakes have solid lines running the length of there body. It's not clear from that picture if that's the case. As for gophers, a few months ago my mom's yard was invaded. After several attempts with home treatment she finally gave up and called professional. It took three treatments but for the moment she is gopher free. We don't expect her to remain that way because two yards over there are a bunch of fresh gopher holes. |

We will have to have Sci-Man Steve weigh in on whether Mister Slithers is a gopher or a garter snake. My entire back yard is one giant mass of pocket gopher holes. They think my vegetable garden is their own personal Farmer's Market. Out outside cat is a lover, not a mighty mighty gopher hunter. To thwart the gophers, I plant my vegetables in gopher cages. These are basically chicken wire baskets that you dig into the ground. The chicken wire keeps the gophers from eating the major roots of whatever you plant. The cages come in all sizes and last for years. I do not want to trap or poison my gophers. They are welcome to eat anything in my yard except the vegetables I grow for personal consumption. The gopher cages allow me to draw that line in the sand... (or in the case of our native soil, the clay). |

We will have to have Sci-Man Steve weigh in on whether Mister Slithers is a gopher or a garter snake. The gophers were doing a job on my mom's neatly trimmed lawn and some of the bushes were being worked on as well. Last weekend we found a dead gopher and I believe anything that size that can move dirt the way they did would be a real handful for a cat. Unless you have a monster cat, I wouldn't blame your cat for not catching gophers. |

Lets see there is spaghetti or meat loaf or split pea soup(from scratch) or even turkey with all the trimmings... I also cooked stew and pot roast, yellow crookneck squash(from seed to plate), thankfully I'm not allergic to KP... The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |
