I just inherited a Pentium E5200 with an NVIDIA GTX275 GPU. Will it crunch AP; once we start getting work again??? I don't have the system turned on, yet. I need to get a keyboard and mouse; and I have a monitor being donated to me. The system has an 80 GB IDE drive; NO DVD, yet, I will be adding a SATA DVD. (Found SATA Port right next to the GTX275.) Installed OS is Win 7 Pro x64. NVIDIA card is on latest driver; as told to me by the donor of the system. I would be interested in also installing Lunatics; but, need to know what settings to select in Lunatics. (CUDA50, 42, or 32, etc...???...) OS is NOT activated; will need a key for that... MOBO is Gigabyte; CPU has stock Intel cooling fan. System has 8 GB RAM. PSU is unknown... I would need to pull it to get info. It is installed in the bottom of the case; NOT the top, where I usually see PSU's. Case is full size ATX with two case fans; one at the top of the case, and one at the back and top of the case. Thanks in advance for assistance. :-) TL TimeLord04 Have TARDIS, will travel... Come along K-9! Join Calm Chaos |

i think this applies to you. Might be ok for Einstein though... http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=75633&sort_style=6&start=0 |

i think this applies to you. Might be ok for Einstein though... Thanks Zalster. Through that link; I've found that I need Driver 266.58 for Win 7 Pro x64. That should allow me to crunch AP... Now, what about MB??? Which CUDA flavor do I want to select in Lunatics??? Do I even want Lunatics 0.43a; or, should I use an older Lunatics? I have 0.41, 0.43, and 0.43a all downloaded that I can transfer to the E5200 via USB Flash Drive. I don't; however, have 0.42... TL TimeLord04 Have TARDIS, will travel... Come along K-9! Hmm.. I'm going to guess and say if you use the lunatics choose cuda 32. I'm sure if I'm wrong someone will say so, lol |

CUDA32 is the best MB pick for that GPU and if you plan on doing any AP's on it then make sure that you use a pre 340.xx driver (but using a pre 340.xx driver won't hurt if you're just doing MB's only anyway). With your CPU it would be best to upgrade to a better HSF if you plan on crunching with it as well as the standard unit will not cope well. Use the 0.43a version of Lunatics. ;-) Cheers. |

With 266.58, CUDA32 would be the only option as that is the maximum version that the driver came with. |

Doing further reading in the Thread linked by Zalster, I have found that the latest BOINC may also limit me... Something about the latest versions of BOINC seeing the GTX275 for what it is; and, how old it is, and will prevent AP's from being downloaded to the system... If this is the case; which BOINC should I use for this system??? The oldest BOINC I have downloaded on Exeter, (the system with my GTX760), is 7.2.42. If I go to my laptop, Voyager, I'm sure I can find older than that; however, I don't want to go back too far, just far enough that I will get AP v7 work for the GTX275. Thanks again everyone. :-) TimeLord04 Have TARDIS, will travel... Come along K-9! Join Calm Chaos |

It's not the Boinc version that will prevent you getting Astropulse (Boinc 7.4.27 had the Pre-Fermi disablement removed), But the driver version, If you are unwise enough to install the 340.5x drivers, the scheduler will prevent you from getting Astropulse tasks for the GTX275. You're quite free to run Boinc 7.4.27 Claggy |

So, I'll run NVIDIA driver 266.58, install BOINC 7.4.27, and Lunatics 0.43a. If Lunatics will let me choose CUDA23 for MB I'll use that; otherwise, I'll stick with CUDA32, and I'll let Lunatics take care of AP v7. Thanks everyone. :-) TL TimeLord04 Have TARDIS, will travel... OK; now that I have this system powered up and getting ready to crunch, I need to know: On a Pentium E5200 dual core 2.5 GHz system with 8 GB RAM, with the GTX275 on driver 266.58, will the GTX275 crunch three WU's at a time for SETI Main, Beta, and Einstein??? Or, is the GTX275 too old to do that? If it's too old for three at a time, how many WU's can be crunched at the same time? (Will be installing BOINC 7.4.27 and Lunatics 0.43a for SETI Main.) If it can crunch three at a time; I already have an app_config.xml that I can copy from Exeter to Prometheus. (Exeter - AMD A6, GTX760 and Prometheus - Pentium E5200, GTX275.) Thanks again, everyone. :-) TL TimeLord04 Have TARDIS, will travel... Come along K-9! Join Calm Chaos |

For the GTX275 you're better off just letting it do 1 at a time with their architecture, doing more than that isn't really worth doing as they're not designed the right way for it. The Fermi based cards and their architecture are the 1's were the beginning of doing more than 1 was productive. ;-) Cheers. |

OK; now that I have this system powered up and getting ready to crunch, I need to know: I think SETI wu take 250 or 300 MB video card memory. How much memory is on the GTX 275? I see on the internetz lots of GTX 275 with 896 MB video memory. That is enough for 2 wu. 3 wu may or may not work. |

You need to do the hard work and try it on your platform, testing is the only way to determine. |

I think SETI wu take 250 or 300 MB video card memory. How much memory is on the GTX 275? Yes, my 275 has 896 MB GDDR3 RAM. Based on input from Wiggo and Vic; I have just completed setting up "Work" Preferences on all three projects. I successfully changed Prometheus to "Work" on SETI Main and Einstein. How do I change Prometheus to "Work" on SETI Beta??? I can't find a link, or anything to select Prometheus, (nor Exeter), on Beta... :-( Or, does it matter??? On Exeter, in SETI's and Beta's Project Folders I have an "app_config.xml" that has Exeter set to crunch 3 WU's at a time... So, if I don't put an "app_config.xml" in Prometheus's Project Folders then Prometheus should only crunch one WU at a time for SETI Main and Beta, right??? TL TimeLord04 Have TARDIS, will travel... Based on input from Wiggo and Vic; I have just completed setting up "Work" Preferences on all three projects. I successfully changed Prometheus to "Work" on SETI Main and Einstein. Make sure you go to Seti Beta where you're logged on, so go to 'Your Account': http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/beta/home.php first, and make sure you're logged on, Then to 'Your computers': http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/beta/hosts_user.php Then finally to the 'Computer 73464' host details page: http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/beta/show_host_detail.php?hostid=73464, the location preference (for that host) will be at the bottom of that page. If you hadn't been logged on, and went to the 'Computers belonging to TimeLord04' page, http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/beta/hosts_user.php?userid=4861, it would have been if you were looking at someone else's computers, and you wouldn't have able to see the venue/location preference. Prometheus is now set to "Work" on Beta. However; for SETI Main and Beta, because Prometheus doesn't have an "app_config.xml" file telling it to crunch multiple WU's at a time, I found that it IS ONLY crunching ONE WU at a time - for Beta, it hasn't received SETI Main work, yet... Einstein seems more problematic. It doesn't seem to want to come off of working three WU's at a time... It is now set to "Work", and "Work" is set to run one WU at a time; yet even after hitting Update several times it refuses to come off working three at a time. :-( TL TimeLord04 Have TARDIS, will travel... I have almost 40 WU's to go through; and, now, currently micromanaging them to crunch one at a time... :-( TL TimeLord04 Have TARDIS, will travel... Come along K-9! Join Calm Chaos |
