Well thats your opinion. Im just gratefull that this rock was moved with out the taxpayer being butt slammed by it. Ive payed good money to see stupider stuff on display. Like the Eiffle tower,The Lourve, The Arc De Triump. The Imperial war Museum in London. Even 221 Baker street.
Its a waste of money? Guess I can cross off seeing Ayers rock off in person then.

First James there is no Ayers Rock !

It is called Uluru , second yes it is now a waste of time as you can not climb it like i did in the early 90's as it is no longer allowed

It is not Art but a natural part of the Landscape

And wouldn't it have been better just to give the cash it took to move a ruddy great rock to the charity than spend it on a rock ?

As for the Eiffle tower that is not art but a natinal monument same as the Arc De Triump ,The Imperial war Museum in London is a museum not art .

Well for "just a rock" its certainly aroused enough passion and debate to be art. The best sort of art does that.

As has already been mentioned, Art, like Beauty, is in the eye of the beholder.

Glenn, you say moving that rock was a waste of time and money. Maybe it was, but the folks who ponied up their cash to help make it happen thought it was worth it, and derived some value from it. The major donors probably also give significant amounts to charity. Would I have given if I'd known? Probably not. But I participate in, and donate to, this project, and many folks consider SETI a waste of time and effort. To each their own.

That's one of the benfits of living in a (relatively) free society - if you have the money, you can spend it on whatever you want, no matter how frivolous others may think it, as long as it doesn't harm others.
