After any years absence.

I have two old machines which I downloaded BOINC onto, both running XP, both with intermittant internet connections.

A few questions.

Is there any way of ruling out duplication of processing tasks between machines with one account setup? I probably skipped something vital somewhere.

Second, the screensaver. Looks nice, but starts flashing .. shall have a read through the Q&A.

Suggestions welcome!

Many thanks~!

BOINC looks after the delivery of tasks to your machines. I have three that sit on the same account, at the same location, but because they have different ids they each get their own tasks.
The simple way of avoiding the flashing screen save is not to use it. However if yo want to use it pop over to number crunching where there has been a bit of discussion about this problem.

Welcome back.

Whether to allow duplicate tasks to be sent to the same machine or same account is a project setting set by the project administrator. Most production projects have this so that the same account will not get a duplicate of a task it already has. There will be a duplicate sent to another machine as a double check. If both tasks come up with very similar answers, the task is called a match and both get credit at that point.

I started again one week ago, after 18 month's of absence. By the way
You can 'merge accounts'. PC., too, as I did this only computer.

It also runs in a 'virtual box '. Very little experience with virtualizing but
it defenetly has some serious funktion taking care off the need, updating your
"What-ever" software to yet another O.S.&(environment).

You can merge computers within an account (sometimes). You cannot merge two accounts.
