Watch this video.

The evidence is clear, in a couple of decades, robots or AI's run the show. But what are we going to do with all those human beings who don't have a job anymore because robots do it better, faster and cheaper?

I did watch the video. A very good presentation of the future.
And the politicians view? They only think of a growing economy that will solve the problem.
And who wonders about the huge unemployment among the youth population in so called rich countries?
This is not going turning out good.

Edit
Come to think about senior citizens.
I'm soon becoming one.
Does this apply to us?

What a depressing video. It seems we are inventing technology to put ourselves out of work. Plus the fact that businesses will use that tech to make more profit.

If I was a young person Id get the skills to fix the broken robot. How long untill they can fix themsleves is the next question.

You just proved my point. What good is progress when up to 50% of the worlds population might have no jobs? Oh I get it, we put people on the dole so they can sponge off the ones who still have a job.
And what happens one day when the AI finally wake up and decide they have had enough of giving us a free ride.

This reminds me of a person working in a bank in our country.
He was told to work with some difficult calculations.
So he did this with some Excel spredsheets instead.
The boss was impressed for saving a lot of manhours.
The boss later said thank you and 'we dont need you anymore'.

The robots are supposed to make it so us humans can sit around all day long creating lovely art. At least that is what they have tried to make us believe. The only way such a society can exist is if there are far fewer human beings than there are now. I hope I don't live to see this future.

Well if robots take over most of the jobs we don't need that many humans anymore. There will be a natural tendency towards negative birthrates. Like the guy in the video said, we don't see that many horses around anymore.

I don't think the growing amount of robots and programs doing human jobs is bad necessarily, provided that we change around the economic system. Right now its based on scarcity. Scarcity of labor, scarcity of resources, etc. But with robots and automation around, we can reach a point where scarcity no longer really exists for a lot of things. We could do away with capitalism and switch over to a resource based economy, where work etc is no longer that important.

Oh, as for the AI waking up and wanting to kill us, I don't think its that likely. Such scenario is always based on the idea that the AI overlords decides its better to kill off all life for some inexplicable reason. I think that the AI's that would have the theoretical capacity to do such a thing are to smart and to empathetic to us to do such a thing.

Hang on.
In US there are 300 millions willing consumers, people dumb enough to buy just about anything from any country. Anything. They´re born to buy. The people in US are bred to purchase things. That´s what the educational system turns out – consumers.

I don't think lack of jobs will produce a negative birth rate. If anything the opposite. With nothing to do sex is the next best thing and unless the robots sterilize us at birth I don't see the human population making a dramatic drop, without outside help like war or disease like in the TV series The Last Ship. But even killing 80% of the population leaves 1.4 billion people.

Oh nonsense. Sure, people might have more sex, but we have decoupled sex from procreation. People will have sex but they won't have kids.

Besides, why should we want to get rid of so many people in such a short time? The world can easily sustain 10-11 billion people, and with robots doing all the work and thus increased efficiency in nearly everything it should only be easier.
