Congrats on the mil, TL.

I took the air brake class yesterday and passed the test. Now I'm cleared for line training as coach conductor. However, I don't think I'll be able to complete that and get qualified this season. I'll try to get in a couple of training days, but I'm going to concentrate on training on the streetcar instead. I think I can qualify on that yet this year.

I managed to do a bit of training on that too. I did the one thing I was most dreading, getting down on my knee to check the oil in the air compressor. That is a real b!#(&. You have to get down on at least one knee and reach way under to unscrew a cap on the end of a pipe that filled with oil. The cap has a lever on it to make it easier to turn, but the lever hits a bracket as it goes around, so you have to flip it every half turn. It's too loose to stand up on its own, the oil that's now on your hand makes it slippery, and you pretty much just have to feel whether it's threading properly, which is hard to do while flipping the lever. But anyway, I didn't kill my knee in the process. It's a little bit sore this morning, but not as bad as my hand still is from a week ago. After all that, when the training guy finally showed up with the keys to the car, we breezed through the rest of the inspection (he was showing it to another trainee). I ran it out of the barn, into the tail track, back onto the car line, and half way around the loop, to where my car was parked. It was time to leave for the brake class.

Ping!
David
