Egypt media critical of Hamas amid Gaza war

Experts say newfound media support for Israel in its Gaza offensive reflects ongoing tensions between Hamas and Egypt.

At the onset of the recent Israeli offensive on Gaza, popular Egyptian television presenter Tawfiq Okasha shouted to Egyptian viewers that "anyone defending Gaza on any media platform is a dog". His comment was just one of many condemning the besieged territory and Hamas political officials.

Amani Khaya, a presenter on the privately owned ONTV, warned viewers not to forget that "Hamas is the armed branch of the Muslim Brotherhood terrorist organisation". Another television host, Osama Mounir, responded to Hamas' demand that the Rafah border crossing be opened under international supervision, by asking: "Have you lost your mind? Hey man, why don't you just come and take Tahrir Square?".

Who to believe ...

Neither The Jihadists, nor the Anti-Semites.

+1 In our case it's best to believe our own perception. We're not in the middle of it all...

Meanwhile...pictures (aesthetic not bloody)

some lovely old photos of Palestinians in Palestine

Thanks Hev... poignant... left me feeling sad that so much has gone so hideously wrong since...

Gary :) re: Your post about British banks targeting Muslim charities... this pattern has happened before... and it panned out well for NO one. Persecution is not the wisest policy... It fosters resentment and then it drives it underground...

Reports that children have died digging the Gaza tunnels have been around since late 2011, early 2012.

:( awful. As many who have died in the bombing raids?

Popped it into a search engine (160 reported child tunnel deaths ) Really struggling to find something other than Jewish blogs and Israeli media sources (doesn't mean they're not there... just haven't found any yet...)
Given Israeli reporters are not allowed into Gaza by their government... and the one Palestinian Israeli that is, is not having all her filed reports printed in the Israeli press, suggests to me this news source is the Israeli military. I am not doubting you... but I'm a tad dubious about them. Obviously I'm dubious about Hamas too... :(

Gary's many links post
Hi :) Thanks! That IS a lot to wade through... watched the aljazeera program when it first aired. Very interesting. Did you see the one that was simply a list of all the hunger strikes in Israel's prisons? :(

Nothing from the Investigative Project I see :) Although - AHEM! Hang on a minute... :)
Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI)? That rings a rather discordant bell: Israeli propaganda organization closely associated with Israeli intelligence. According to their web site: "Emphasizes the continuing relevance of Zionism to the Jewish people and to the state of Israel."
Set up by Yigal Carmon... Oh :( Remember him? Friend of Steven Emerson. O-k-a-y... :) chucking that one straight in the bin...

Oh please *snort* trolling right wing blog writers that crawl out of the woodwork from time to time to appear on Fox news. Y-e-s.... bin bin bin bin bin :)

I do have time for this publication. Get the feeling Zionists don't though. Nor does the Israeli government.

Now this has promise! Much more balanced - as long as it's not selectively quoted from which sadly most of your other links did - which was a bit like watching a biased proliferation of information inbreeding before my very eyes *somewhat offended glare* most offputting.

*Sigh*... We've been here before...

Perhaps another read of this will remind us...

@Sirius... thank you for your link (even though it IS BBC :)) Kevin Connolly is someone else I have time for - I'm glad he still commands the respect he deserves in order to be allowed to speak freely. I'm sure there are others too...

If you are a six-year-old in Gaza, you have already lived through three separate wars

I know the headline says this belongs in another thread...

Holocaust survivor, 90, arrested in Missouri protest

...but the content of the article has a bearing in this one...

Since all the Forensic Evidence isn't completed. The witnesses disagree with what happened:

What does it have to do with this topic?

Seriously? Did you not read the article?

She has also taken an activist stance in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. "Hedy visited the Israeli Occupied West Bank five times since 2003, to witness the facts on the ground."

"She participated in several non-violent demonstrations, together with Israelis, Palestinians & other internationals, in opposition to Israel's occupation of Palestinian land, the 25-foot high cement wall, and the demolition of Palestinian homes and olive orchards."

In 2003, she came to Israel to protest the building of the separation barrier, and the Israeli government deported another activist, Anne Petter, in order to prevent her from filming Epstein's protest march along the barrier.

In 2009, Epstein declared a hunger strike after Egyptian authorities prevented her and others from marching to the U.S. embassy in Cairo to seek assistance to reach the Gaza Strip.

The following year, she joined the Gaza Freedom March, which was a failed attempt by hundreds of protesters to travel by bus from Cairo to the Gaza Strip.

Does that help answer your question? There was a picture of her too from the 2009 protest, but you probably didn't see that either...

Here is another connection between Missouri and Gaza. People in Gaza are showing solidarity by tweeting to the people of Ferguson on how to deal with tear gas.

gaza strip tweets ferguson about how to deal with tear gas

Another: Israel trained police "occupy" Missouri after killing black youth

Having lost the argument:

They are slipping into silliness and irrelevance.

I don't understand what you mean Clyde. Who are they and what is the silliness and irrelevance?

Wow, this thread reached up to 1184 posts already. For the people here with slower computers it might be best to start a part 2.
