Thanks for the Annie update.

Late edit:

Vic,
I'm allergic to Levofloxacin.

Hope you feel better :)

Thanks Lynn. So far I've suffered no ill effects from the stuff, I'm feeling better than yesterday when I felt a lot of pain(9-10 out of 1-10), today more like 6-7.

I'm allergic to Penicillin and blue cheese.

Rest and take it easy, Vic :)

I'm doing that, gonna take 2 pills now, just had 2 sandwiches all day and a drink or 2. And tanks Lynn, Mega tanks. :D

Tomorrow you will be at 4 :)

No, I take pills as directions say, that's 1 of each for pain every 6hrs, the other pill is just once a day. Sandwiches, that I don't know, the Mega Tanks are at lvl 4 already.

Just had a text from Annie. They are sending her a new Home Hub router. (I always knew that was the problem ....) She was going to kidnap a BT engineer for a ransom but the last one she saw was a bit big, and the only weapon she had to hand was a tin of cat food. So waiting in for this new kit is seriously hampering her hostage taking plans.

:))) Sounds like Annie alright:)

Woohoo! :) Although I was looking forward to some news reports about a BT engineer being taken hostage due to a customer having "no internetz" :)

I'm sure abduction remains an option.

Message 1565083 - Posted: 30 Aug 2014, 21:31:12 UTC

BT service (since this thread seems to have wandered onto that) isn't all bad. I arrived at my mother's rural cottage last month to find not only the broadband service down, but no dialtone on the landline either. Spent the expected half-hour wandering round the garden (only place to get a cell-fone signal to India), while they did the remote test and decided the fault was inside the house. I couldn't categorically deny it, because at that stage I hadn't disconnected the master socket faceplate to reveal and use the test socket underneath.

Next morning, test socket exposed and line still not working, I rang India again. Another half hour in the garden, while they conceded it might be an 'intermittent' fault on the line after all, so they could book an engineer - but I would be liable for a charge of well over £100 if it turned out to be not their problem after all.

Booked me in for the morning appointment the following Monday. Around mid-morning, a lady engineer arrived at the door (no mean feat, that far into the countryside), and briskly confirmed the deadness of the test socket and set-to with tone generator etc. to find out where the breakage was. Narrowed it down to the top of the pole across the road, where the cottage line is broken out from the trunk feed up the valley. Decided - very correctly - that it was unsafe to work up there alone (rural road, no sidewalk, just round a downhill blind corner), and called in the cavalry....

....who duly arrived within the hour, with a baby cherry-picker on the back of the van. The pair of them cut out the wire crossing the road (much muttering of "it's been a good few years since anybody was in here" from the top of the pole) and spliced in a new length: tested internally for both voice and broadband, and waited while I tested it on the internal extensions too. All done and dusted before the end of the appointed time-slot for that first (and only) visit. And no call-out charge.

Sounds better than Verizon out here will do, they want to abandon in place legacy copper landlines, hence little to no money is spent on any maintenance on either voice or data. I'm glad you have your line repaired too.
