Don't be sure. When the CHP commissioner is backing away from this it doesn't look good. This one cop who lost his temper is not going to be the big story. What happened after she was in custody will be. IF in fact she was hidden away and not taken for medical care.

True story; there were two guys fist fighting in a parking lot. When the cop came he ordered them to stop. When they didn't he pepper sprayed them. Within five minutes two ambulances show up and begin washing out their eyes. These were grown strong men. Didn't this disturbed women deserve the same?

when you watch the vid it looks like after a couple of good hits she gives up but then he goes in for a few more and to me that's when he over steped the mark

I can understand over there you have to be forsceful but you also got to be able to keep your cool ...

At the very least he has to quit , no good if he's lost control of his temper with a gun on his side next time it will be BANG to late to say opps after the fact

When a ex New York Cop is lost for a explanation well ...............?

Thanks Glenn, I don't care if she was mental, cop lost his cool.
You never hit a women.

Incorrect. Sometimes, to protect oneself - or others, hitting may be necessary.

I've posted before, that in my experience as a Police Officer: Almost all male Officer's are reluctant to punch a woman, and some male Officer's have been injured (no it is not part of their job to be injured), some seriously because of this.

Lynn...

Would you agree, it may be justified for a male Officer to punch a woman, to save a baby's life?

CLYDE, depends on the circumstance.

edit: I seem to be taking a lot of Criticism for speaking up about this women.
I will lay off until the Investigation is complete.

Yeah, but cops are the damn law, they are ALWAYS right according to the law. A story like that is horrible and I think he got fired afterwards, didn't follow the story...Point is, the thread title will never happen. Sorry if I offended anyone but I've had it till here with cops! (Was a squatter for 9 years)

Julie...

Can't speak about Laws, regarding Police Conduct in Other Country's. Only in The US, and just pertaining to Police Criminal Liability under The US Criminal Statutes.

Police are, and I believe correctly, given wide latitude regarding Criminal Liability. It is well understood that decisions, regarding life, or serious injury, may have to be instantaneous, and not a product of Contemplative Reflection, nor 'leafing thru a 10,000 page Law Book. It is just the nature of Police work.

Regarding your feeling about the Police: I do understand, have grownup as a 'Street Kid' in NYC, before The Army 'straightened me out'.

Streetlife also straightens one out Clyde. I do have some anarchistic point of views in me, unfortunate as it may seem sometimes.

I shall comment that the woman has a record of several offenses.

1) Is it possible this isn't the first time this officer arrested her?

2) You would think with several arrests she would have learned how to be arrested.

If the women offended him personally, I can't blame him. Probably has another job now or something...

She most likely has a psychiatric problem. Don't worry about the arrest, what they did after will be the big story. The community activists are going to be allover this. It should be an interesting. Because it was State Police this will go all the way up to Governor Moonbeam.

The CHP didn't do anything after except drive her about 6 miles down the road to the county jail. Now LASD may have done a bunch. Or are you working under some misconception that the state operates jails? They don't. They operate prisons. County Sheriff's operate jails. And the LASD operates one of the worst! Six officers there just were convicted, including intimidating an FBI agent! http://www.laobserved.com/archive/2014/07/six_la_sheriffs_deputies.php Now that is where the problem is, not the CHP. And you are right, what the LASD did will be the story. Blood is already in the water.

Yes. And I hope there are a bunch more indictments returned. Some high level brass needs to have the full force of the law.

Activists renew call for independent probe of CHP punching video

Community leaders and attorneys renewed their calls for an independent investigation into the California Highway Patrol officer who was recorded on video punching a woman along the 10 Freeway.

Could be. He is lucky they are only calling for him to be fired. Whoever took custody of her after the arrest probably isn't sleeping well lately. I saw a cop pepper spray to guys who were fighting. EMTs treated them before they were taken away.

This may become a federal case.
Rep. Maxine Waters said the officer should be fired for "viciously" punching the woman and the CHP must thoroughly investigate.
She called the incident a "brutal attack" and said "there is nothing that can justify the officer punching a helpless woman on a freeway."

For those with access to BBC World News channel the latest Panorama program is very informative about the state of mental health care in the US, i.e. in prison

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/n3csvf6g

if you cannot get the BBC then the case of Joshua messier is one of the cases brought up and it was reported on http://www.myfoxboston.com/story/20113362/2012/11/15/death-on-the-itu-video-reveals-fatal-restraint-by-prison-guards

Yes, America has a crazy control problem. Made far worse because of SCOTUS declaring the severely mentally disturbed have more rights than society. As a result all "mental hospitals" are in fact super-max prisons. If you aren't following, a "mentally challenged individual" now has the right to refuse to be made sane and can walk the street in that insane condition. Obviously that individual can't hold a job so they must resort to theft. So now they end up in prison, but with that same right to stay insane. Guards have to deal with that. That is "patients" throwing feces and urine on you, attacking you and more. Won't take long for a saint to have enough and break.

There will always be street problems like this until we have RoboCops but that is a few years away. What I'm interested in is what happened to this women after she was in custody and no longer a danger and passion is no longer a factor.

Who are you talking to here?

Ones in ivory towers who "know" everything. Ones who refuse to allow that reality is different than their world preconception. Ones who think every homeless will happily enter a shelter or program because "it is the best for them." Ones who will give the "homeless" guy at the suburban shopping center a $10 bill, but call security if they see one near work because they are scary.
