I tend to just stack my socks and underwear on top of whats in my drawer. So the same 7 pairs get used over and over. So after a year they get pretty beat up. I guess I should rotate from bottom to top.

I would say about 10 years for a wallet, but I don't carry cash notes in it, just info and debit cards, membership cards etc. loose cash is in my pocket. I never carry much cash, get it out the hole in the wall as I need it.

BTW it is not good for your back to sit on your wallet in a hip pocket. This was told to me by an orthopedic doctor over 30 years ago when I was having some back pain.

It also curves debit cards and makes them difficult to use in swipe machines.

Old wallets are to men like old sports jackets are, you wear them out to the death. Handbags to women are a different matter and a fashion item on show (+ matching shoes of course ...)

Wallets are something akin to a good pair of boots.
I'll wear a good pair of boots to death, and I have 3 more pairs of them that I bought. I think they'll last me until I pass away.
So will the wallet.

Mark mentioned his Social Security card. That is the oldest thing in my wallet, transferred from long since departed wallets.

That SS card was done on a typewriter, but I found my dad's SS card while going through some old stuff at my mom's house, and his was engraved on metal.

The most interesting thing in my wallet is a $20 Australian bill I was given as a tip. I'm not trading it in. It's kind of cool to me.

Thats is the oldest thing I carry also. Back in the mid sixtys is when I got mine. It came with two cards, I still have the other one in the safe still attached to the form.
I liked my old combat boots. I wore them all 8 years I was in the AF. The fit like a glove. They finally rotted off of my feet after 10 years.I was sad to see them go:)

I used to do that, but it took Me a good while to find My SS card, as the card was misplaced, so the card, old as it is, stays in My wallet and the edges are fuzzy, but then the card is about 35yrs old and replacing the card costs money now.

Mine is pretty old. I have a vague memory of giving it to my grandfather for Christmas when I was little. I got it back after he died. At that time, my nylon and velcro one was about worn out and I just couldn't convince myself to like the new one I had sitting here. It's still sitting here, still unused.

The one I'm using has a lot of wear, especially to the cloth interior card pockets, but I'm being careful with those.

Did I ever tell you about the wallet I left on the train as kid? In 1976, my grandmother took me on vacation to a dude ranch, where I won a wallet in a talent show or something. Later that year, my father took me to the Olympics in Montreal. We took the train. Amtrak (brand new Amfleet tubes) to Detroit and probably CN from Windsor to Montreal. He even sprung for a sleeper. I had the upper and put my wallet, with both US and Canadian money in it, in this pouch on the wall at the head of my bed. And forgot it. No cash for me for the rest of the trip. It was only about $7 each country, but to a 9-year-old, that was a lot.

My current wallet is ~20 years old, It's predecessor also lasted ~20 years and the one before that ~10 (I lost that one). :)

I don't keep all my ATM and Credit Cards in my wallet, for the same reason....

When I used to go to a bar that was walking distance from me, I'd leave the wallet at home, and just take my ID and a $20 bill with me. Kept me safe. ;~}
