Message 1727086 - Posted: 19 Sep 2015, 20:31:10 UTC - in response to Message 1727015.

Simple but tasty dip recipe.....

1 15oz can Hormel chili
1 8oz bar Philadelphia cream cheese

Warm and mix together in a sauce pan or small crock pot.
Scoop into mouth with Tostitos.
Nom nom nom.

There are a number of different varieties of Hormel chili...I use the chunky style. And some prefer to use 2 bars of cream cheese to 1 can of chili, but I prefer the 1 to 1 version.

Meow.

Hormel chili and beans sounds like something out of the movie "Blazing Saddles" :)

LOL....well, I suppose if one were to consume the entire batch for a meal, you could be playing some music later on.
If one desires, Hormel does make a chili/no beans variety........

I think beans are quite tasty.
When staying in England for four weeks I had baked beans on toast for lunch.

Thanks for your comments and suggestions about bread making
and my whole wheat dilemma. I have purchased some bread
machine flour and will try something with that. Maybe I'll
make the wheat & bread flour loaf that was suggested.

I'll keep you posted.

I avoid the whole problem by not eating chili. Yuck.

No worries....
The less you eat, the more Hormel on the grocery shelves for the rest of us!

LOL...that might not be the salt.
It just might be the CHILI.

What's your favorite brand then Mark? I noticed Campbell's, Stagg and Wolf make Chili.

Today most ready made food contains a lot of sugar and salt.
I always do my own chili.

Wolf make(s) Chili

I've had it, and don't care for it. Hormel is the best of the canned I've tried, but in general canned chili is too dense for me. Of course, I could thin it out, but it's not just the texture; I find the flavor rather one-dimensional. I do love my own recipe, though, and my mother's, of course, ;~)

I have tried some of the others, but I prefer the Hormel I mentioned in the dip recipe. Usually the chunky.

But, as some have noted, Mom's was better yet.

Nalley "Not too sweet," said one taster.
That probably means thats too much sugar is added from the beginning in the others.
I wonder why. Sugar and salt is something you can add yourself.

Chili is not okay, it is disgusting. In my opinion, of course. I do not like any aspect of it. Well, okay, ground beef is fine... until the slightest bit of chili powder hits it. I hate all forms of chilis.

My mother used to make chili. She would brown some ground beef, then add Brooks Chili Hot Beans. Maybe some tomato sauce (I forget). And usually corn. Probably some of her own herbs and spices too. I never touched it.

I would have tried it, nothing ventured, nothing gained. My Dad said I should have an open mind and not be afraid to try new foods. I at first didn't like Pizza, until I had some that is.

Well, "red licorice" isn't really licorice.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liquorice

What you call "red licorice" is just a fruity candy with
the same texture as licorice, and often the same shape.

A lot of food manufacturers add unnecessary sugar to
their canned foods. They do this to make it tastier
to children, who drive what a lot of parents buy. I
look at ingredients and purposely buy the brands with
less or zero added sugar.

Salt is added to make it tastier to adults.

I only buy canned chili to make chili dogs and a
chili-cheddar dip.

For the dip you cut a smallish
block of cheddar cheese into small pieces and mix
it with a can of chili. Put it into the microwave
and cook until all the cheese is melted and can
easily be stirred in with the chili. Use as a dip
with tortilla chips.

There are so many foods you refuse to eat, Dave, that
it must be very easy to do your grocery shopping.
