My mom has a whole set of those CorningWare dishes. They're great. Hers are the old-school type that can go straight from freezer to oven.

Now we are cooking:)
Just fry some meat, add some lightly fried onions and carrots.
Let it boil for an hour and so.
Taste if there is something missing. Spieces like thymes is very good.

Here is a receipe with lamb and dill.

I have two of those with glass lids, I inherited both(from My Mom and My Brother), ones on a shelf and one is full of veggies in the refridge at the moment. I've used this type dish to cook hamburger for spaghetti in a microwave oven, for meatloaf, etc, etc, etc, though the meatloaf I baked in a gas oven. Careful though, the lids will shatter if dropped and the pieces are very sharp.

Yes, I think she's lost a couple lids that way, and you can't get replacements.

I broke one lid by accident, later I bought a replacement lid, on ebay...

My mom had those casserole baking dishes too. I think she still has several from her set.

Hopefully no one uses steel wool on these dishes, that is much too abrasive, I use a scrubbing sponge to clean them with, My Mom though thought I was nuts for doing so, steel wool will leave metal in the ceramic surface, the green side of the sponge got rid of that.

Looked through the refrigerator and spotted a half head of cabbage that needs to get used before it goes bad. Yum.

Boiled cabbage with onion in beef broth.

I just dice up the cabbage into pieces about as big as your thumbnail. Dice a medium onion. And boil them in beef broth until soft.

I've never seen the green side be abrasive enough to scratch Corningware and I've been using both for at least 22 years with liquid dish soap and water.

Replacements, Ltd. I don't know if they have those, but I bet they do (and I bet they're expensive).

I've seen them on ebay for anywhere from maybe $5 to maybe $25 before shipping, ebay has a 100% buyer protection guarantee, if a seller fails to deliver and won't contact you, you get all of your money back, shipping charges included. Yes I've had all of 1 seller do this to Me, but since I did get My money back, who cares? Not Me.

I'd have to say, you snooze, you lose. And eat the crisps :)

Just ask yourself: 1) do I really want to eat them and 2)is anybody going to miss them if you did.

W-e-e-e-e-l-l they've *shifty-eyed look* disappeared a bit... but the answer was yes... and yes...

There was this voice that said something about snoozing and losing...? It controlled me.

I might have to go find a shop in a minute when they open in about two hours... :)

Control Annie. Control.

Or, when she nips to the shops she could get some "backup" crisps. Just in case such a situation occurs again :)

She has to be more assertive. Wait until every one is awake then demand
in a very stern voice: "Ok you people, where did the chips go?"
Then quickly leave the room while every one comes to the realization
that there were chips to be had.

I think they were issued to new housewives in the late 50's.
