I knew these guys from the clean shaven days when they were playing local clubs. Back in the 70s before they went nation wide: ZZ Top - La Grange & Tush. Sure makes me feel old, but not as old as Dusty and Billy look with those beards. Nice to know they are still kicking it.

One afternoon back in '83 they (ZZ Top) dropped by my house. They wanted to meet a friend of mine to recruit him go on tour as the drummer in a front band they were putting together. My friend, Chuck, was probably the best young drummer in Texas at the time. He turned them down. I think he regrets it to this day. Chuck broke his back the following year when a truck backed into him. He survived the accident but it ended his drumming career. Sad and true story.

I don't think I know anybody famous... though I did nearly get run over by a Miss World once... not sure that counts though :) and one of our local taxi drivers was taught how to play guitar by Marc Bolan (British Glam rocker)

(Here's one from him for you Julie :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9rFoPyqFoA

Opportunities missed, like that of your friend's are such a shame mrperk. To be followed by the tragedy of breaking his back must make him wonder sometimes how very different his life might have been if he had taken the opportunity to join the band. :(

I would count both.

Heck, I have felt run-over by an intoxicated pageant runner-up, once or maybe twice ;-) and anyone that can play a guitar in public counts.

Speaking of... I was at a local bar called Momma's Worry when another celebrity walked in and jammed with the house band: Johnny Winters. In the mid-70s, I guess it was 1974-75 there was a local group of concert promoters that I was a member of called "The Top Name Committee" and we promoted some fine concerts (mostly blues, rock, and country), and one huge flop that ended us.

Since I am on a name dropping kick, the most memorable concert was the J Geils Band; they brought the house down, well, it was an old unused basketball gym, but it was packed, hot and sweaty rocking. David Allen Coe was also memorable 'cause he got drunk with me after the concert and made a pass at my cousin Liz. She came to visit me for the concert and whoa she had a good time. David got too wasted to do anything, but stumble into his hotel room and pass-out. He performed drunk a lot back then... Hahaha!

I just watched part 1 of Earth - Making Of A Planet.

A fascinating point of view.

Cheers.

The first 1:45 of this is hilarious, and so is the very last line. The stuff in between is good too, but not all of it is funny.

Well now, there's something I didn't know.

But it leaves a big question: if he was going to be part of the Titan's crew, why wasn't he on the Enterprise for the whole film?
