It 'is' The Continuum Of Fear Blasted into HuWoMan's Widdle Brains-Especially Extremely Young and Impressionable, along wif Easily Swayed Adults-where this Rat-a-tat of Disasters is aimed at. And it Creates Ridiculous PUblic POlices, Laws, Rules, Regs, and Waste of Trillions of BUckOlas.

Using these Horrendous Past 5 Extinctions and then Segueing into HuWoMan Climate Change is turning Science into Science Fiction.

Wanted to Thank Davy; Faraday; and Maxwell.

Faraday's story was fascinating. As brilliant as he was in real world experiments he was ridiculed and shunned because he didn't have the education to prove it mathematically. His lab work was much like Edison's; keep trying things until something works. I do find the animation a bit tacky though.

The content is good but I feel like I'm watching a program aimed at 12-15 year olds.

That's how i feel too but i just try to enjoy Cosmos for its human side of science, not for the science itself.

I sure wish that Carl Sagan had made an appearance at my high school in 1966 or 67 and I had been able to convince him to take a handicapped lower middle class science loving student under his wing.

Isn't that rather high-brow for USA TV?!

The land of the voice-overs and 5 year olds target?...

Unfortunately, most TV gets forever dumbed-down so as to maximize the advertising audience :-(

Hence the death of USA science?

I find his response typically British. They still regard us as little more refined than unwashed heathens. But in WWII we managed to pull their sophisticated butts out of the fire.

But sometimes I do feel like somewhat of a genius compared to most of the population. Especially here in the south.

Do you not find the cynically patronizing level of adverts offensive?

Good thing they don't let you people have guns.

That is worthy of a thread all to itself over in politics...

What I find offensive in America is how Science has to be defended against the Bible Belt Bible Thumpers and politicians like we are somehow still in the days of the Crucifixion!

It is unfortunately true though. Advertising companies are not stupid, they know they are not going to influence those with high intelligence. Highly intelligent people will usually do some research before buying items, especially high value items.

So advertising companies aim for the people they can influence most easily, and not those who will do there own research. This means their average audience will be those with an IQ about 85.

And because this is the target audience for the advertising companies then this has to be audience for the TV companies.

If your IQ is close to or over 115 then mainstream TV programs are not produced for you.

I've always said that there is nothing whatsoever wrong with any organisation in the world.

However, they all have one thing in common, the wrong people in the wrong positions.

In the past scientists were respected, however, nowadays, especially in the Internet age, any Tom Dick or Harry can create media to either state as fact or dispute anything & everything to get their views across.

A superb example are Internet forums.

Trying to ascertain real science & scientists from the pseudo-scientists & know-it-all's is getting difficult by the day.

Who needs tabloids or media when we have those with their own agendas polluting sensible science threads?

Really does make one wonder!
