My main cruncher ran out of GPU work, so now it is chewing thru Einsteins, where is the real problem? Com'on, relax, it's a new year! :)

It seems like the servers take few days off, they must return tomorrow to duty. Until then our backup projects say thanks.

*sighs*

Well, it's clearly obvious that the holiday season is over for at least some people...
So much for "...tis the season to be jolly," or such ideas as, goodwill to all men.

+1 happy new year, relax, take a load of...the project will run again. Maybe not in a couple of hours but let's wish the guys at the lab a happy new year too and don't bash it because there's no work. They have families too and January 1st is a national holiday isn't it ?

Still looking strange to me. I'm only getting no tasks available.

Cricket has not really taken off as much as a typical recovery.

Server status page at 20:20 is strange:
The old stuck file is gone.
5 splitters shown as running on left side, right side says 9 channels in progress but only 8 show a progress bar. Creation rate started high but is now at 22 / second. No buildup of ready to send.

I hope the tire kicker can get out of there and relax. We can wait.

It was said the server may come back up on it's own but no one was going to Ctl+Alt+Del on the 1st.

This was one of the benefits of moving to the colo facility: it's where all the Berkeley servers are as far as I know, so there's always someone there to monitor and restart them if needed, 24x7, even on holidays.

Something Sten-Arne may be able to relate to also being in the northerly latitudes: I knew something was wrong with SETI@Home work production as my apartment was chilly. :^)

Same here. I live in the far north central in the US where we've had many days and nights this winter below 0F including 1 day with temps down to -30F. My main 8 GPU cruncher puts out many BTUs of heat and requires a partially open window and a fan to keep the machine at a reasonable temperature. I walked in yesterday and it was freezing cold - I knew something was wrong.

'cos the splitters are trying to catch up with a few days of no work being sent out.

And as is quite often the case, they are struggling.

Ever since the PFB splitters came online they have struggled to produce enough work to keep systems busy.

Yeah, someone is going to have to go down to the COLO and look at what's happening there sooner or later.

Cheers.

I think it's a software issue- ever since the PFB splitter implementaion they've struggled. You get the odd period of them spewing out 100's per second, but most of the time they can barely produce 25/s (barely enough).

Ditto here in chilly Canada.

I closed windows and doors to the barest crack, but forgot to re-open them today until I found several computers had frozen due to their heat (103-105 degrees)!

Now I'm happily back to cold drafts across my feet and hoping no real damage was done!

We're in a middle of a VLAR storm with difficulty of getting GPU Wu's:

03/01/2014 15:05:02 | SETI@home | Tasks for CPU are available, but your preferences are set to not accept them

And when I do enable CPU work fetch (and disable Nvidia and ATI work fetch) I receive 100 tasks, 95 which are VLAR, and only 5 that are non-VLAR,

To get the VLARs out of the way some of you may wish to do only CPU work fetches for a while.

In progress tasks for computer 5427475

Edit: If no-one else has trouble getting GPU Wu's then it's possible I've cleared the blockage, for now.

I got my fair share for CPU - about 50 vlar tasks in progress.

I tried the other day to crunch a vlar with GPU. It (AR 0.012) took about 4500 seconds to crunch on my 780. I tested it with lunatics benchmark when no other tasks were running either on CPU or GPU.

Haven't tested with 3 vlars at a time on NV GPU. :)

I had some problems this morning - when I first checked I was down 35 tasks below limits, mostly gpu. Every work request for about 5 hours got a no tasks available response, along with no ap available. Wondered why it didn't say no tasks for S@Hv7 so I changed my preferences by turning off v7 and AP and saving.. At first, I had trouble getting the change to take, but finally it did. I changed them around a few times to make sure it was okay and then set them the way I wanted, My next work request filled me up to limits on both devices, and I've been able to stay there. So turn your gpu fetch back on and see if it works.

Also getting a lot of VLARS, but not as many as you. I'm tired of shorties, so it's okay with me.
