I was attacked by a herd of turkeys once, they were hell bent on pecking me to death. If I was an American I could have grabbed my AR15 and fought them off but as I am an Australian I had to run into the back yard and grab a wooden stake from the tomato plants and beat them to death. All my friends came over and we had BBQ"d turkey for a week. I don't have an AR15 either. I have a 5-shot revolver made in about 1898, found in my grandmother's house before we sold it. I don't have any ammo for it, and don't plan to get any; research I did indicates it probably wouldn't long last with modern powder rounds in it. I keep thinking about getting something newer, but I haven't pulled the trigger yet, so to speak. All I have is a set of golf clubs, if any turkeys break into my house with me in it, I'll knock 'em right off the fairway and straight into the oven. Are you saying I should have swan for dinner instead? One of those bit me earlier this year... Swan is very nice, provided it's cooked properly. It needs slow roasting for several hours (much slower than a turkey) with plenty of liquid in the roasting pan so it's almost steamed, otherwise it's quite tough. Tastes like a more gamey version of duck. Life on earth is the global equivalent of not storing things in the fridge. |

So, better having a turkey rather than fish and chips on Christmas Eve? actually on Christmas Eve's past i would deliver presents far and wide...i would get home about 1030pm ...i would stop at a local diner that was open til midnight and pick up 9 or 12 hotdogs. then i'd go home and watch whatever religious epic was on the tube....aaahhhh the indigestion that brings back... |

Wild turkeys can be quite territorial, and they will gang up on a person, but it is mostly bluff. My sister and her husband live on a few acres on the edge of a small town, and every spring and again in the fall they have to "educate" a small flock of wild turkeys about who owns the land. Left to their own, the turkeys will move into their front lawn (full of fruit trees) and charge anything or anyone that comes into their domain. It takes a few days of regularly chasing them with a broom to re-establish who is the alpha species. And before the animal rights people get all upset, I should point out that the dumb birds keep coming back quite regularly, for about 10 years now. Obviously they get by just fine without my sister's front lawn. |

Gobble :) The first time he gobbled and they gobbled back was good. After that, it got silly. David Sitting on my butt while others boldly go, Waiting for a message from a small furry creature from Alpha Centauri. |
