I can't believe that we won't be seeing that smiling Robin Hood avatar anymore. You will be missed my friend and you certainly won't be forgotten. RIP

Being relatively new here, I hardly knew John. I suppose that's my loss.

To all of you who called him "friend," and to his family, if you're reading,
I'm very sorry for your loss.

Sue

I've come across his posts from time to time but didn't know him as well as you guys. I've been looking back at some of his posts and can see why he was such a popular guy.

My sincere condolences to his family and I'm glad Chris is there to represent something that obviously meant a lot to him.

There's another star up there looking down on us.

Rest in Peace

Firstly, may I thank every one of you for all your kind messages of remembrance and condolences, which I will be pleased to pass onto John's family upon your behalf.

I couldn't help but notice this report, which I think would have given our dear friend a little chuckle. Robin Hood

I will of course get back to you after the service next week.

Thankyou, but I am just pleased to do what I can to help Thomas.

John's friend Keith/Gnu has asked me to post this for him, and I am happy to do so.

Death is nothing at all,
I have only slipped away
into the next room.

I am I, and you are you.
Whatever we were to each other,
that we are still.

Call me by my old familiar name,
speak to me in the easy way
which you have always used to.
Put no difference in your tone,
wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.

Laugh as we always laughed
at the little jokes we enjoyed together.
Let my name be ever the household word
that it always was,
let it be spoken without effect,
without a trace of shadow on it.

Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same as it ever was;
there is unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind
because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you, for an interval
somewhere very near,

just around the corner.

All is well.
Nothing is past; nothing is lost
One brief moment and all will be as it was before
How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!

Good words, especially when there are none that I can offer. I only got back from a break in Devon, a few hours ago and I found this thread. I'm shocked and stunned at this bad news - truly shocked. Perhaps I am more shocked than many here, as I went to my 'mother-in-law's' funeral on Wednesday, whilst on holiday. I have been thinking about 'sponsoring' a dog with the Dog's Trust, for a little while now....perhaps I will now make that a little more solid than a thought.

I just had to crunch a few cobblers so I can post in memory of The Old Cumudgeon.

I feel honoured that I knew John and had the chance to meet up on a number of occasions, I'll miss him always.

I didn't know at the time what to say, but I thought those words came very close.

Mr. Gnu - Thank you for doing that to post here.

Iona - If you can support the Dog's Trust in that way it would be a lovely tribute to John. XXX

Gas Giant - Really nice to see you after nearly 2 years. Please come back more often.

Hi Guys,

After a long day and journey, I finally got home from John's funeral a short while ago. I can report that the service was well attended, and it was evident that we all were still remembering Sheila's own passing only a few short weeks ago. There was an Eulogy composed by his brother, a tribute from one of his sons, then I spoke on behalf of Seti.

I printed off all the contents of this thread and passed them on to the family to read. I understand that an animal charity has taken all 5 of the dogs and they won't be split up. The family wish to thank you all sincerely for the kind thoughts and condolences.

Chris
