WK, sleep on it please. There are also only six active Mods. I have not seen Clive for quite some time and hope he is ok.
The thread you are referring too, is not one I normally follow, but will catch up on it now, if nessessary make my view known privately.

Please don't throw 14 1/2 yrs with the project down the drain.

There is also the issue, where should they be moved too?

Winter Knight, there is no relation between a MOD decision that you don't like and crunching for SETI. These boards are for fun/socialization, and even if you disagree with 100% of what people write or Moderator's decisions, just ignore the "noise" and crunch for the value of the science to which you are contributing.

If you thought your contribution to the project had value, then I suggest that ill-informed decisions and pseudo-science posted here don't diminish the value of your contribution.

Sorry Wk, that was the only one I didn't want to wade thou on a pleasant Friday evening.
Skimmed only, but depending on how I feel I may reread it.
If you need a posting vacation, we can understand that, but why should the project suffer for a few misbehaving posters.
If one disappears another one comes along.

I don't think hunting for "Sasquatch" belongs on the History Channel, but guess what...

I think it is asking a great deal of moderators to expect them to be able to determine what is and what is not science in every conceivable field. While I agree with WK that intelligent design is most certainly not science, I think that moving or hiding nutter-butter posts would be much like battling a hydra on a very slippery slope.

In a large public forum there are bound to be some posters with tenuous grasps on reality. The energetic amongst us battle ignorance with thoughtfully written, helpful information, and I salute these noble individuals. The less energetic amongst us (me, for example...) just change the channel when Sasquatch comes on.

Yes, ID can post all he wants and so can you. It doesn't need the approval of people with more brains and knowledge to do so, whether it is declared as science by whoever or not.s it.

Winter Knight, Everyone knows I.D.'s M.O. He posts knowing he will get challenged. Everyone also knows he never answers a direct question.

I think everyone also knows if they stopped responding to his posts. He would go away. I can assure you that back when I was a mod that was our wish.

And dont assume that all 7 mods were in agreement. Id bet there was some heated discussions before a consensus was reached. Ive seen refferances to SCOTUS in here. Even they disagree on points of law.

I hate to see a cruncher, New or old leave. But you have to do what your heart tells you Winter Knight.

James,
You just about summed up what is happening in the mod room.

Action will be taken, and we know the trigger, we just need all the ducks in a row.

In the mean time WinterKinght, have a couple of days rest and recovery and enjoy the scenery from a safe distance then come back refreshed.

WinterKnight, if you really have faith in this project, I don't see the reason why you leave it.
The threads of the project SETI@home have nothing to do with the objective pursued by the project SETI@home.
And the ideas which are conveyed in the threads reflect only the opinion of those who convey them.
Drop the Science Forum if you don't believe in it any more.
But you're a contributor very important for the project.
Put things in perspective and stay with us.
The project needs you :)

Let us get one thing perfectly straight, intelligent design is not science. Just about every major country, except Turkey, has said so and refuses it to be taught in schools as a subject in science.

By letting our "friend" Robert (I.D.) have his posts on the science board, this site, which is science based, that's primarily why we are all here, is sending out a signal that intelligent design is science.

If you look at the first rule, posts must be kid friendly. Well if ID is to be allowed on the science board then it is not kid friendly, it is kid confusing.

Also by letting intelligent design threads into science then there is only one conclusion to be drawn about the present actions of the mods;

I.D. has won, ID is science

I hope you are happy about that, I'm not so my statement stands.

Goodbye.

Winterknight---by your leaving I.D. wins-think about it.

The mods will handle it I have no doubt.

At the moment no, because, in the eyes of the mods, I have been over critical of them because they allow those post in the science board, and therefore have had posts hidden.

Up until these intelligent design and religious threads, I have had one post hidden, and that was by you, when you were a mod, again for a reason I did not think valid, but let it pass at that time, in the present climate I would not have done.

The world is full of ignorant people. Sometimes I try to change them, but mostly I ignore them. I certainly don't let them stop me from doing what I think is right (like crunching for S@H).

Winter Knight,

I have never even looked into that forum before following the link from this thread. Just from that link, I can see that this guy is indeed an irritant to say the least.

However, I don't see how allowing him to post his opinion, even in a science forum, means the whole project is bad. The mods are just volunteers and are also human beings. They have nothing official to do with the operation or the science of the project. If all of the Seti@home project scientists came in and said they agreed with him, you might have cause for concern. As it is, you are seriously overreacting and becoming almost as irrational as he is.

Take a couple of days off from the forums, get good and drunk if you're so inclined and not an alcoholic (but don't post while you're drunk), and put the idiot on your ignore list.
