j, if you are reading this, what happens if u press the back button right now? Does your thread show as 'read' or 'unread'? Because ever since upgrading to IE10 Seti threads remain yellow for me when I hit backspace :)

The thread titles in SETI fora have never changed color when clicked and then I go back to the Number Crunching board. I assume it is something in the SETI web pages that controls this. That's why I was so surprised when IE 9 started having the same thing happen on all (almost) web pages.

Sorry, was being too laconic as usual.

I'm asking a different question. A new question.

Now that you've upgraded to IE10, what happens when you hit the back button while reading a thread? Does that thread show up as 'read' or 'unread'? I don't mean the title (text) changing colors from blue to purple/maroon or whatever... Next to the title on the left there's a little piece of paper that's yellow when unread and white when read. Does it change color when you go back? Mine stays yellow when I hit backspace. But it shows up correctly if I click on the 'Number Crunching' text on the top or bottom of this page (i.e. Message boards : Number crunching : IE 9 Question)

Getting the icon change requires re-reading the index page. A back button generally just reshows whatever your browser has cached.

Some browsers automatically refresh the page on backspace, others re-display whatever was shown last time - and some pages have a 'nocache' tag which means (should mean?) that all browsers load a fresh copy.

It took me a while to get used to the changed backspace behaviour when I switched from (an old IE) to Chrome - but it sure is quicker. Maybe IE 11 has taken a leaf out of everybody else's book.

Yeah, most likely... But I don't like it :)

Not because of the Back button behavior. But because they are going too fast and tripping over themselves.

I'm sick of hearing (well reading technically) Chrome go "Ooops..." like it's my fault. We've all (here) spent thousands & thousands of hours on dial-up (PSTN), I can wait a few hundredths of a second more for a page to load. I prefer stable over 'fast but hit and miss'.

Unfortunately I'm alone in this, or everybody would be running IE8:) Rock stable.

I had the same experience. Now, at work I have a new computer with IE10 and it's acting like Chrome does at home.

(sorry for the delay)
Yes, in my case, the little yellow page icons turn white when I go back from one of the topics. But not if I use the back arrow, only if I click "Number Crunching" at the top of the page. So same as you.

Forgot to mention...

Another gripe I've got with IE10's back-button behavior is it doesn't go back to where I had scrolled down to, it just goes to the top of the previous page as if it has the memory of a goldfish :(

I had a quick look at IE options but couldn't find anything to bring back the good-ol' behavior. Anyone got any tips/tricks/workarounds?

Try IE 11. It goes back to exactly where I was, but then I remember my IE 10 doing that as well. I think it has something to do with the individual site.
