before I ask, I have seen a number of posts covering app_info.xml, but none of them seem to answer why it's missing from the the installation. On my event log I get the error message "07/06/2013 13:21:31 | SETI@home | Message from server: Your app_info.xml file doesn't have a usable version of SETI@home v7." Could anyone answer for me how to correct this and answer, why it's missing in the first place. Thanks |

An app_info.xml is a file you compose that enables you to run your own applications, it is not there by default, if you didn't compose it with v7 applications in it, you won't get v7 work. Eithier revert to the Stock apps by removing your app_info, reset the project, and restarting Boinc, or go and Install up to date v7 apps with the 0.41 Lunatics Installer. Claggy |

To add to what Claggy said. Stock SETI@home application does not have app_info.xml Optimized SETI@home application (Example: Lunatics application) has app_info.xml If you have stock seti app, you don't have app_info.xml so you can stop looking for it, it is not there. If you have Lunatics app, then you have app_info.xml If you have an old one, you need to modify it. You can modify it manually (pain in the a$$) or you can use newest Lunatics installer to create new app_info.xml file, you choice how to do it. |

Thanks guys that's exactly what I thought. I am now downloading the 0.41 update and hopefully get V7 working fully. One question before I install the New 0.41 which Nvidia option do you think I should set mine to as I am running a GT640 which is a Kepler chipset? |

CUDA 5.0 - though CUDA 4.2 won't be far behind it. |

The Cuda5 app should be the most productive v7 GPU app on your host, you may or may not want to run the NV AP app, i don't know how productive it'll be, and you'll most likely need to free a CPU core for it too. Once again thanks guys. As you say Claggy the NV ap App maybe a luxery and may not improve anything on my system so I will have to try them out to find out either way! |

a Kepler Apparently not when using the stock application. The other day, this user (Mark) reported a lot of invalid work. I checked and saw that his 660s were only getting stock cuda42 tasks, which then first were Completed, validation inconclusive, and later Completed, marked as invalid. I told him to force the use of the cuda50 app through the Lunatics installer. Since that time, although some still report as Completed, validation inconclusive, they do end up as valid. |

I have it enabled and have found it using 0.04 CPU and 1 GPU. Which has not changed from previous. I also have team members who are asking if there is an installation guide available. |

a Kepler A well-maintained and well-managed Kepler, like my Host 63280 at Beta (yes, that is mine - same machine as host 6910484), can run and has tested all the stock applications down to cuda32: fully compatible. It shouldn't even attempt cuda22 or cuda23, though. Here at Main, with the optimised apps, I run cuda50 because that is the fastest in both theory and practice. If you've found a Kepler which can't run cuda42 reliably, then I suspect it has heating/power/timing/motherboard or any one of a host of other problems - Jason can give you the full list. |

it would be nice if there was a list readily available for Cuda problems and solutions to hand Richard. Will there be a time when one is available or is this asking too much? |

What do you need, other than the release notes? They are at message 1375941, the very first post in the 'Lunatics Windows Installer v0.41 Release Notes' thread. There are additional 'ReadMe' files in the installer itself: they mainly pertain to post-installation matters. The first team-member to install the apps could pass them on for re-distribution to other members, or you could extract them administratively (the installer package can be opened and files extracted using 7-zip) and host them. The Team did intend to post an archive of the ReadMe files as part of the release, but we ran out of week before we got round to that - sorry. It's a little difficult to get hold of people with the necessary site admin priviledges at the weekend, but I'll see what we can do on Monday (we still have some hosting and upload issues for the package itself at Home Base Lunatics to sort out, too). |

Again, the weekend is a tricky time to organise that, but it sounds like a good idea. I'll see if I can round up the usual suspects on Monday. Thanks for the suggestion. |

I can't seem to get the v7 executable (Linux x86_64) to download. I'm configured as anonymous-platform (in order to run the KWSN optimized astropulse application for the past year). I've tried the procedure, as suggested elsewhere --- set NNT, drain all running tasks; close/terminate boinc manager; remove app_info.xml (renamed it to .bak); restart boinc manager; reset seti project. That downloads all the *.png and slideshow* files but no executables! According to the table of currently available applications there is a 7.01 version (of setiathome V7) for the x86_64 linux platform. There isn't any message generated as to why the V7 is not downloaded and I've let the whole thing "simmer" for over 24 hours in hopes that the next seti update request would sort things out. There is no GPU in the system, BTW. I would appreciate any ideas on how to resolve this situation. The last relevant event log messages are: ...your app_info.xml file doesn't have a suitable version of SETI@home V7...; ...preferences allow tasks from applications other than those selected; started download of ap_01jn...; and that astropulse application is now running. |

V7 should have downloaded automatically in the background and updated itself! Mine certainly did. Have you checked in the "About BOINC Manager" in the help menu? I had similar issues in the past and all I could do was to abort all current tasks and reinstall BOINC after a full restart. |

I've tried the procedure, as suggested elsewhere --- You're said you're restarted Boinc Manager, (Boinc Manager is the GUI), did you restart the Boinc client as well? Please post your startup from the Event log, the first 20 to 30 lines will do. Claggy |

O.K.: Did a boincmgr terminate AND a boinc (client) terminate; restarted boincmgr and did a seti project RESET and here is the event log... At 17:31:47 the process looked like it was dormant, with no download activity, so after 10 minutes I "kicked" it with an "update" request. 09-Jun-2013 17:27:03 [---] No config file found - using defaults 09-Jun-2013 17:27:03 [---] Starting BOINC client version 7.0.27 for x86_64-pc-linux-gnu 09-Jun-2013 17:27:03 [---] log flags: file_xfer, sched_ops, task 09-Jun-2013 17:27:03 [---] Libraries: libcurl/7.26.0 OpenSSL/1.0.1e zlib/1.2.7 libidn/1.25 libssh2/1.4.2 librtmp/2.3 09-Jun-2013 17:27:03 [---] Data directory: /home/gene/BOINC 09-Jun-2013 17:27:03 [---] Processor: 2 AuthenticAMD AMD Athlon(tm) Dual Core Processor 4050e [Family 15 Model 107 Stepping 2] 09-Jun-2013 17:27:03 [---] Processor: 512.00 KB cache 09-Jun-2013 17:27:03 [---] Processor features: fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush mmx fxsr sse sse2 ht syscall nx mmxext fxsr_opt rdtscp lm 3dnowext 3dnow rep_good nopl extd_apicid pni cx16 lahf_lm cmp_legacy svm extapic cr8_legacy 3dnowprefetch lbrv 09-Jun-2013 17:27:03 [---] OS: Linux: 3.2.41-8 09-Jun-2013 17:27:03 [---] Memory: 1.96 GB physical, 10.00 GB virtual 09-Jun-2013 17:27:03 [---] Disk: 93.75 GB total, 76.08 GB free 09-Jun-2013 17:27:03 [---] Local time is UTC -7 hours 09-Jun-2013 17:27:03 [---] No usable GPUs found 09-Jun-2013 17:27:03 [SETI@home] State file error: missing application file ap_6.01r546_sse3_linux64 09-Jun-2013 17:27:03 [SETI@home] State file error: missing application file setiathome-5.28.x86_64-pc-linux-gnu 09-Jun-2013 17:27:03 [SETI@home] No application found for task: x86_64-pc-linux-gnu 601 ;
