The fall in credit was most definitely not deliberate. I wouldn't even know how to cause such a thing using the BOINC credit new. I had assumed it was a case of "fast machines report results first" which usually drives the granted credit to low values when a new version is released, but there should have been ample time for that to fix itself. Mine has dropped from the 560k range to currently 404k. But, I only turned in a little under 300k yesterday, so almost half of my norm. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." watch the RAC fall and fall and fall and fall. and also noticed that with the new version of the op app unlike the old op app i was using i actually have to turn off gpu crunching to actually use the system. |

I would post about your system availability problem in the installer thread. There may be some settings that could help you with that. I have not tweaked anything other than running 2 tasks/GPU, so I don't have any experience with those settings yet. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

A couple of issues might be in play here. I found my RAC went up substantially once I changed from stock to optimised apps even though my rig wasn't getting faster or running for longer. I take it the rig was doing the same number of calculations but I was being 'rewarded' for my manual install of a more efficient app. So what must have been happening perhaps is that if I was getting validated alongside a wingman running stock I was getting the same credit as they were but able to turn around more WUs per hour. Maybe the way credit is worked out actually meant I was undermining the credit that the stock wingman should have expected too but I don't know. Now we're running optimised vs. optimised apps my RAC is freefalling and is now around where it was before I installed the optimised apps. Although it hasn't stabilised yet and is still falling. Maybe this is fairer on everyone but I still preferred it when I had the advantage of being in the select few that read the forum and knew about optimised apps. The other issue is that I'm still building up a validation pending queue in V7 and it won't be until that reaches an equilibrium value that my RAC reaches a new maximum if I understand correctly. Either way, I'm doing this because I think it's important that humanity does what we're doing here and not for some arbitrary reward - I never really responded well to the promise of stickers and gold stars as a child. But the credit system does provide a useful feedback for our efforts and expense and if others feel that competition is an important aspect of this endeavor for them then the project would benefit from a review of the current exchange rate for their efforts through greater numbers - if they're needed. |

My RAC has gone down by less than 10%. Is this worse for people using anonymous platform? 30% drop so far, still falling. EDIT- that was total RAC, i just remembered one of my systems had it's PSU die for a day. On the system that didn't have down time the drop in RAC has been 25% so far, still falling. My RAC has gone down by less than 10%. Is this worse for people using anonymous platform? Mine falls from 450K to less than 308K, but the daily production drops from 500k/day to less than 140K on the worst day (2 DAYS AGO) and now 211K/day |

27% drop across three rigs, and ditto on the "still falling". |

My total RAC seems to be stabilizing around 750 (Previous was 850-950) That's a drop of about 15%. The question is, how much of that drop is v7, and how much is due to throttling back my P4HT boxes from 2 tasks to 1 at a time just before v7 rolled out? My RAC has gone down by less than 10%. Is this worse for people using anonymous platform? I have run stock for a few days and from my point of view, there is no difference in granted credit between stock and anonymous platform. Both systems gives lower credit equality. - Performance is not a simple linear function of the number of CPUs you throw at the problem. - |

I think i hit the bottom of the sea, my daily production stops to fall and stabilizes at 211K (far beyound of old 480-500k with V6). RAC of course will continue to fall to this level, now <300k (from the old 450k) But i just see, most of the new CUDA WU received are vlars... so this will be a long slow production weekend for my Nvidia´s GPU´s that can´t realy handle the Vlars eficiently. Expect another fall in the dialy production. I realy can´t understand why keeping sending vlars to the Nvidia GPU´s. Does anybody still have the old vlar killing script? |

Well, if all people care about is the completely arbitrary number called 'credit', than I think small loss to the project - we are crunching as fast as we can split anyway. William, as I posted in another thread and this is not directed at you specifically: Whilst some are focusing just on credit, the issue is not about credit as such. It’s about recognition. There are many distributed computing projects to which people contribute resources. The manner and means in which those projects recognise individual contribution is through a system that is based on and allocates credits. Some projects choose to recognise a person’s contribution more than other projects, thus they grant a higher credit rate per contribution for that project. In short, credits are effectively an indication of a person’s contribution to a project. In the case of "the New Credit System" implemented by Seti, recognition of personal contribution has been reduced. At present, the indication is that recognition for effort is effectively half that of what it was prior to the new recognition system being employed. ====== In short, the new credit system is going to cause angst and upset amongst contributors. You cannot deny people their view or belittle them for having this view. The point is this, the new credit system stinks and no matter how you look at it, those that designed it and approved it must live with any adverse reaction for surely they must have known the impact. If they did not, then it is just pure negligence on their part. Dr David Anderson, his team and/or the volunteers involved in this must accept responsibility for the outcome and any negative comments/impact. To do otherwise is a complete aberration of responsibility. |

RAC's been falling. Nothing to fret about. Finding the aliens is the main reason I do SETI anyway. I do like to overtake the 1st place in the country's stats but that's just a cherry that I would gladly trade any day for the proverbial cake... |

So people like their egoboo. Fair enough. Perhaps Dr. A. should post that V7 credits are worth twice as much as V6 credits. |

I thought things might have slowed down a bit yesterday. Not so. RAC is still in freefall. Grant Darwin NT |

My RAC has gone down by less than 10%. Is this worse for people using anonymous platform? As of today it's fallen 28% (for the system that didn't have any down time). Grant Darwin NT |

Since my credits per hour rate, easily computed, is around 1/2 compared to what it was, I'm expecting my RAC to end up at 1/2 of what it was. So 1950-2100. So until it reaches that, it's a downhill slide. Enjoy the ride. "Life is just nature's way of keeping meat fresh." - The Doctor |
