...so I got some 1000 grit sandpaper and cleaned them up. Reconnected the original ECM, and today the car was running great. And the speedo didn't think I was doing 115mph on the way to work....Meow. So did you leave any coating on the contacts? If you got down to the core metal they'll probably corrode real fast - but you knew that I expect. |

Settling down to some winning work after the administration treated the support staff to breakfast for our last "training meeting" of the year. About 15 women and me. Good thing lunch is late today, but I'll still go light on it, or maybe take it home for dinner. Carlos: the neck is better, thanks. Mark: I used to drive a Jeep Grand Cherokee. They were known for their ECM problems, which usually turned out to be a bad ground connection. @Mark Are you going to keep all the extra sensors for stock, or unleash a flood of parts to ebay? [No I am not a potential buyer - my Prius ECM will only talk to other computers on the CAN, not to mere sensors <sniff>.] LOL. I'll keep my stock of spares...the car is already 23 years old, and I plan on driving it until the wheels fall off. One of the other things I acquired is the original factory shop manual. Always made it a point to get one for any vehicle I intended to keep. Invaluable source of information. And I did leave some of the plating on the contact lands. It was 1000 grit sandpaper I used, very very fine grit. The spare ECM I have is the same part number, just a different PROM. So if things do go south with the contacts again, I should be able to swap the correct PROM from the stock ECM to my spare and be good to go again. For whatever reason, the contacts on my spare look much more well preserved. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

Ah, yes... Well aware of ground gremlins. One of the first things I tried chasing down. Loosened and retorqued both ground points on the engine block, two on the fenders, and the ground wire to the battery. My mechanic, who had the car for two weeks before he gave up on the problem, also added an extra ground wire to the ignition control module when he swapped in the new one. Winning with a light rain falling. Attended the Wednesday morning Koffee Klatch at the Veterans' building, then represented local Veterans at the annual Peace Officers' Memorial Ceremony at the County Complex. No names added to the Memorial Stone this year, thank God.... Donald Infernal Optimist / Submariner, retired |

Whoo whoo! 444 posts. We're clattering right along now. Another hundred posts or so and it'll be time to start applying the air brakes (we don't have dynamics, you know) to come to a smooth stop at our final destination. (This also happens to be my 2300th forum post. Break out the balloons and party hats.) (Follow-up: having eaten leftovers of the egg foo yung last night, I took some pink stuff before breakfast today. It has worked too well and I now have the pain in my intestine that I had for quite a bit of last summer. Skipped lunch altogether.)
