I have Windows 8 and BOINC v7.0.28 x64 running SETI@Home Enhanced 6.03. The files download and then immediately say "Download Failed." Astropulse files work fine. I have looked on the message boards but have not found anyone addressing this problem exactly as I am having it. Your ISP has a problem with image files. It appears to recompress them, which gives errors such as: <file_xfer_error> <file_name>seti_603.jpg</file_name> <error_code>-200</error_code> </file_xfer_error> You can get around that by going into your Account (available from the top and bottom menu bar here at Seti, or else from the Menu bar in BOINC Manager), computing preferences (this is a direct link), editing them and changing "Skip image file verification?" from No to Yes, saving changes to the preferences site with the "Update preferences" button, then opening BOINC Manager->Selecting the Seti project->Click Update. I haven't checked to see if that fixed the problem or not, but I do believe that you have solved my problem after looking at the log files. Thanks a lot, I do appreciate your time. Shawn H. |

Well, sad to say, but that did not fix my problem. Here is a sample message set that I copied from the log (I know that the timestamp is from before the attempted fix, but the new messages are exactly the same): 4/5/2013 12:58:28 PM | SETI@home | Finished download of seti_603.jpg 4/5/2013 12:58:28 PM | SETI@home | [error] File seti_603.jpg has wrong size: expected 9068, got 5712 4/5/2013 12:58:28 PM | SETI@home | [error] Checksum or signature error for seti_603.jpg So what now? I am a long-time participant, but know very little about the workings of this or any other project. I just installed it many years ago, originally to give my always-on computers something to do, and to use the screensaver to prevent burn-in on my monitors. Consequently, I cannot "heal thyself," so to speak. I would appreciate it if anyone is interested in figuring this out for me. Thanks, Shawn H. |

Did you make sure the client on the computer updated after you made the changes? Grant Darwin NT |

What if you download the file yourself and store it in your Seti directory? That's default on Windows 8 at C:\Programdata\BOINC\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu\ and it will be a hidden directory, so you either have to fill in the path directly in Windows Explorer, or set Windows to show hidden files and folders. You can find this image file at http://boinc2.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah/download_fanout/seti_603.jpg Jord According to Giorgo of the Ancient Astronaut Theorists I do not help with tech questions via private message. I can't believe it. I updated SETI@Home MANY times since the solution was first posted. I just checked the app and, you guessed it, the box wasn't checked. I wonder why the app didn't sync with the web after so many updates? Oh, well. It's definitely working now. Thanks a lot, Shawn H. |

What if you download the file yourself and store it in your Seti directory? Thanks for this bit of info. I definitely like to have alternatives to everything if they may be useful. This will be very useful, I'm sure, at some point or other, as I have had problems in the past and will surely have more in the future. Shawn H. |
