Adding new computer- did not recognize my account

I added a new computer today.

It would not take my VALID email address and password.

When clicking on username and password it said no account used my email address, yet I can logon to this and get my account information under my email address just fine.

I also tried my authenticator. that also did not work.

So I made a new account using the SAME EMAIL address and it will not let me associate my past credits with the account.

My old name is Timothy O the new name is Timothy O'Connor

Both using the same email address and password.

This is very frustrating.

Both can't be using the same email address, as the email address is the unique identifier. So do check at both addresses that the email address is spelled correctly. No letters changed place? No capitals used in one but not the other?
