Now all we need is somebody to pay for it. Oh, I already have, my friend. Many times over. This must be a politician......... Yeah......it all works out.....trillions of dollars later, somebody has to pay for it. And not the one who spoke up for it, oh no, not HIM. NOT ME...... I give up. I have been the poster child for donations for years. The kitties have given all they have to give.......for years. Y'all wanna suck the t8t and moan when there is no milk? OK.....carry on. I'll just do the same thing I have all along. Keep the crunchers on line and take what the project has to give. Uhh, it's the reason I am the number 4 cruncher on the planet. And I do P and M once in a while, and I do contact Eric once in a while. But not to be a bit44.......only to offer constructive views on what I witness after having been here for 11 years. I have seen it all, my friends. That's why when for 4 days, comms with the scheduler were so tied up I knew something was wrong, and I contacted Eric. I really gotta go now, somebody's jerking my chain again. And it's not a kitty. I don't suffer idiots easily. Word to the wise....... Don't jerk my chain again unless you want a really big kitty to come forth. My gurlz get scared when I get riled. You should too. Best Regards, Mark "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." I made some tweaks on the scheduling server to help reduce the connection drops. Sorry about all the connection headaches! Of course, we're still hitting our bandwidth limit for downloads, thus really just kicking the problem down the street a bit... But at least you can report more easily now. Bullseye Matt.. we are back to our normal bumps and bounces, and operating purty darned good.. better than we have in quite a while. Janice |

I'm still in downloading 14 of the 20 astropulse tasks I got yesterday. Stalled transfers all the time and low speed which results in alot of server backoffs. |

If, like used to occur years ago after an outage, the network traffic were to drop below the maximum level, then limiting the work during that intiial peak time would help. But since the network trafffic is always maxed out, it's not going to help- except at the cost of people not being able to even get their meager 100 WUs. It does also not help to get a WU and not being able to download it. From what I've read here, slow (or basically just waiting to time out) downloads also prevent BOINC from asking backup projects for work. Than better "no tasks available" and get work from backup project and if you get something from SETI, than download that at acceptable speed and be able to crunch that. That's the best way to prevent the machine from being idle. |

Not downloading or (even worse) uploading finished WUs since last night. Transfer progress seems to get stuck around 70% of total. Then Boinc backs off. Are the servers down again...? |

Not downloading or (even worse) uploading finished WUs since last night. I'm not having serious problems. See more retries on downloads than yesterday, but they come through. Briefly suspending network use (activity menu) usually gets them going, but I haven't had to intervene on very many since Matt's tweaks. No problems on uploads here. I'm still in downloading 14 of the 20 astropulse tasks I got yesterday. Using a proxy may help a lot. Presently for the past 2-3 days, I've been using a good one, but they come and go often, so it may not work for many more days, but it will work for at least today. 2013-02-09 14:24:26 Using HTTP proxy 137.88.169.25:8080 When I try to download without a proxy, I get 3-6KB/sec and stalls. When I use that proxy, I get 15-30KB/sec with no stalls. Give it a shot. Linux laptop: record uptime: 1511d 20h 19m (ended due to the power brick giving-up) |

For me no problems at all. I switched a machine from Beta to main today, and within a few hours it had downloaded its 200 WU's and is happily crunching, actually has a small RAC 6906753 that is in less than 12 hours. It used to crunch here but had a HDD fail and when I rebuilt it I set it on Beta. |

That looks to have been a whole clutch of wrong deliveries for one reason or another that were pulled short by the server before you got a chance to crunch them. Look on the bright side, you didn't spend time crunching them needlessly.... Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

I haven't clicked a button in days now........I just look at my tasks page once in a while, and it is staying right around 1800.....9 rigs, 200 each. No problems here in kittyland. Don't mention the yellow fluffy thing, its got itself jammed in the works again... Server connections stopped here about 30 minutes ago, server status page stalled at about the same time - and all was going so well... Don't mention the yellow fluffy thing, its got itself jammed in the works again...I just had to comment about it, didn't I. Shame on me. It's gonna start getting cold in here soon. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

Seems that the root cause is too many active users. While the persisting unreliability of the system may have reduced the active user count somewhat, it is apparent that significant further reductions in the number of active users are needed to achieve a load that the systems are competent to handle. I'll suspend for now, and once the scheduler returns to its ongoing limping mode (which seemingly is as good as it gets), I'll continue to clear out existing work with NNT. Once I've completed that work, I'll stay connected but with NNT until the level of this project's reliability approaches that of other projects. The good news for me is that I long ago added other projects to my set, and never added GPU use for SETI. |

Just out of curiosity.. in the HTTP Proxy tab.. "don't use proxy for:" field.. how do I tell it not to use it for uploads and scheduler contacts? Is that going to be something like "sched_op" or something along those lines? I get HTTP errors most of the time on scheduler contacts when using a proxy, and only one that I've used so far was able to upload. Proxy only really benefits for download, but upload and scheduler contact seem to work just fine without one.. so how do I limit proxy usage to just downloads? Or can I even? And yes, I know the crickets have died and something is seriously broken. I got one failed scheduler attempt earlier that said "HTTP service unavailable" followed by "error when receiving data from the peer."
