"Patrick is irreplaceable. There will never be another Patrick Moore. But we were lucky enough to get one." Quote from that link says it all...... He's probably already debating with Carl Sagan :) We'll never see his like again. R.I.P. Sir Patrick. |

The number of stars, galaxies and astronomicle occurencies Sir Patrick Moore explained, theoried and for some others encouraged the philosophy of perhaps would not be ever matched, a fair innings Sir Patrick, unjustly many star travellers will graciously be remembering the style of explanative brought among our species. God bless, good luck... Norman Copeland. |

He was a truly great man. An amateur in the very best sense of the word. He inspired so many by his knowledge, his willingness to seek out that which he did not know and his pure and sincere enthusiasm for astronomy in all its myriad forms. His politics were eccentric to say the least but that can be said of many of us! Sir Patrick Moore cannot simply be replaced. His successors on The Sky at Night can but add to his heritage. I saw his first programme, I saw his last. I am deeply saddened and deeply grateful. |

I once had the pleasure of meeting him. How humble, and how knowledgeable. Missed and celebrated. Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

Seems like he was a most wonderful man indeed. Rest in peace, Sir Patrick. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

A very sad day. Sir Patrick was a great communicator and astronomer. I remember watching "The Sky at Night" in the late 60s. I saw him at the European Astrofest in London a few years ago. He held an audience of about 2000 spellbound for over an hour. There was a very warm, affectionate feeling in the Hall that day as we had all been brought up watching him and loving his programmes. It is the end of an era and he will be much missed. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-20657939 The BBC News story is at the URL above. Tom |

I was saddened to hear of Sir Patric Moore's death, but he had a good innings at 89. A large chunk of which was spent on his 55 years hosting The Sky at Night. I used to dip into his programme occasionally over the years ... R.I.P you will be missed. It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues |
