I've been apart of the project now since May 16, 1999. 13.5 years! I can't believe it's been that long! Thank you for all you guys do which allow us to be a part of this historical project. I would love to know that if we end up finding something I had a hand in it, and, it wouldn't be possible without your work. Thank you!

Dear SETI@HOME and SETI supporters, volunteers and all others,

I think Carl Sagan would have been or perhaps IS PROUD, out there in The Universal or Galactic Mind, and happy to see what we all are doing!

I've been part of SETI@HOME for a few years now, and I'm so excited to be part of a project that, WHEN, not IF, it bears fruit and we discover THE SIGNAL, it will be an event that may possibly CHANGE THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT! Reading an article on www.wikipedia.com called 'Cultural impact of extraterrestrial contact' and it is fascinating, mostly. I do NOT think that E.T. – should they / it choose to contact directly by visiting us – will be violent or malevolent, at least knowingly. An advanced civilization that has the technology to travel the vast interstellar distances have probably evolved beyond that stage, if they ever were aggressive.

I watched the movie based upon Carl Sagan's Novel 'CONTACT, and I think the makers of the film did a pretty good job at relaying Sagan's message.

One day E.T. will contact us, or we'll contact them, perhaps we can even communicate in 'real time' somehow! I think that day will be glorious!!!

I hope SETI will keep on going until the goal is reached. If for some tragic reason SETI would be shut down, it may be the equivalent of waiting for that phone call, not for hours, days, weeks or even years but your whole life, and just as that super-important caller is about to call you, you disconnect your phone line! OOOPS!!!!!

Let's be patient, lets keep going, even if it takes generations, because one day WE WILL MAKE CONTACT! IT IS INEVITABLE!!!!!

Thank you all so much for all that you do!!!

Sincerely and Singularityly,

Nicholas Mustelin

非常高兴成为seti的一员。我知道这比大海捞针还难上10的n次方倍,但我们坚持不懈,有着愚公移山的精神,正是我们人类自身发展的见证。

Translation:
Very pleased to become seti a. I know this harder than needle in a haystack on 10 of the n-th times, but we persevere, has the spirit of the Foolish Old Man, what we human beings witness.

The first thing I do when I get up in the morning is to check and see what my computer processed over night. and of course leave it on all day. Glad to know my computer is helping mankind when it is idle of my looking up all the wrong things. Thanks Seti!!!

That's a really good literal translation for madavigea's post.

Often translations can achieve more meaning if the literal is then converted to a conceptual approximation. With this in mind, perhaps I might suggest that the intent of the original posting might be:

I am very pleased to become a member of SETI. I know this will be harder than finding a needle in a haystack times 10 to the n-th. However, we human beings can accomplish almost anything if we persevere with the spirit of the Foolish Old Man*.

Tu as déjà 170 crédits au compteur ! Bienvenue à toi sur le projet SETI@home et happy crunching !
