It seems to me that as the scheduler problem (whatever it is) continues without resolution (or even lacking identification of the specifics at the site from what I've managed to read), it will get worse and worse as an increasing number of clients go asking for work that the scheduler proceeds to chew (badly) on and then fail of nearly each request.

At a certain point, sort of like folks waiting on a gas line in NJ after Sandy, a sense of anger, panic and despair sets in.

For me, in order not to add the undefined and unresolved scheduler problem, I've simply set all my clients for no new work for SETI. I figure *eventually* folks back at Berkeley will acknowledge, then identify, then resolve the scheduler issue and then will grace us with a 'we see it, we found it, we fixed it' Ceasarian missive and then we all can get back to working new SETI work.

Apparently something is not working correctly right now.

The last eight tasks in my task list are still in Boinc Manager, uploaded, ready to report.

But at least two of these tasks now are reported as "Completed and Validated" on the server, meaning that my wingman on these tasks also has finished these tasks by means of uploading and thereafter reporting.

Definitely an error is around somewhere here. I am unable to report these tasks right now. Also I am not getting any new tasks either.

In My Humble Opinion:

Stop sending AstroPulse tasks for a while. Let's see how it affects on "Timeout reached" messages.

Suggest you go on No New Tasks and do a manual update to report the remaining completions. Reports on NNT have a higher probability of getting through when Scheduler is not functioning correctly. Allow new tasks after you get a successful report. The two tasks that validated were probably reported succesfully, but the acknowledgement was not sent or was lost in transit due to the project's problems. Without the acknowledgement, BOINC didn't delete it. That should happen when you get a successful work request because Scheduler compares what BOINC says it has to what it thinks BOINC should have.

As to getting work, that's becoming more widespread. Keep trying.

Thank you for that advice.

Apparently unsuccessful for now.

Scheduler request failed. "Timeout was reached". "Project servers may be temporarily down".

"Communication deferred 03:37:11" (from Projects tab in Boinc Manager).

This number is slowly going down, I am also able to see.

I will try again at another time. Rather rebooting to another disc and continue.

If you are on No New Tasks, you don't have to wait for the countdown to try again. Do another manual update. The problem is at the server end so there's probably no need to reboot or do something at your end. We're all getting timeouts.

This problem is enough to give any devoted Seti cruncher an extreme headache.
Not only do I have a big problem reporting tasks but the limits are seriously hindering this computers output.
I feel like a child being punished for being naughty.
I am crunching too many tasks so I had better get some limits imposed on me

I am really just venting at my displeasure but I can see why so many big time crunchers have opted out of Seti and gone to other ways to devote computer time.
I feel that Seti is the most important project of them all.
The reason is obvious. We find other life forms then we give planet Earth peace.

It would unify the entire world to know that we have other life forms here and I believe that information would stop the world from fighting within itself.

Please can the powers within seti please find the problem and fix it.
We are all getting frustrated at least I am for sure.

The task limits are not a problem for me . . .
I can`t download enough tasks to get anywhere near the limit :(

For the last two days I have been able to keep my machine in tasks using no new tasks and waiting until I have 5 or 6 tasks left to complete before allowing new tasks. It will normally get tasks after 1 or 2 requests and then I repeat the cycle.

Tried that route as well. It works ( SOMETIMES)

I surely hope this problem gets ironed out.

Other than the limits imposed, I'm not having any trouble connecting with the servers.

Cheers.

Just an idea when SETI server is fixed.
Let it run fixed, Please do not do the Tuesday shutdown.
If memory is correct the fix was in last weekend & working.
Then Tuesday shutdown.
Then trouble again.
I repeat not broken record if the fix is in late before Tuesday.
Please cancel Tuesday shutdown for one week.
Sorry thinking out loud.
Or maybe try a simple fix reboot the servers one by one.

Over 3000 tasks in web account and 0 work in BOINC manager .. not complaining .. just saying

As has been suggested many times already:

Set 'No new tasks' - report the 18 you have - allow new tasks - request work without reporting at the same time.

Nothing to lose by trying it.

Thanks Richard, I am utilizing your suggestion .. the point i was trying to make was the amount of ghost units I have which at the rate I am going will probably end up in alot of "timed out" errors..over 3000 in web account and 0 in BOINC manager

As earlier mentioned, my last eight tasks were not shorties at all.

One of these tasks reported a spike count of 30, nothing else, but ran by means of CUDA.

If a task is supposed to be reporting a gaussian score, it should contain both a spike score, a pulse score and possible triplet score as well in addition to the mentioned gaussian score.

Apparently I got the canonical result there even though I wasn't supposed to have reported this task at all.

I guess you never catch the point! Did I ever make it any better than this?

Should I perhaps look up the name of this task? In any case, I got a blank line in my SMV. Spike score could well have been +0.35 or more when it comes to this task.

Edit on this:

Please don't forget my wingman on this task!

See you tomorrow!

If i go into preferences and change "use CPU" to no and "use GPU" to no and then update in BOINC manager .. the out come is the same as if I "suspend new tasks"

If I happened to be in a forever, not-ending cycling loop, I would give a preference at uploading and reporting what I have, not what I would wish to have.

Results having been obtained in the past could possibly be better than would be achievable in the near future, but this fact apparently is not generally recognized as best as I am able to tell.

Join the club...I have 1,000s that are not reporting (or reporting very slowly); and 1,000s that have not downloaded and timing out as they can't be done in time.
