Message 1355723 - Posted: 11 Apr 2013, 15:50:42 UTC - in response to Message 1355712.

Just so you know, I also wasn't happy with USA based missiles in the UK either, as it could have made us a target in a future war. But I could see it as a component to try to ensure world peace with the good guys winning. As far as I know they don't have any here now.

Just why do you think Maggie & Ronnie ended the cold war with USSR? Why do you think that the Soviets constantly tested our defences?

The UK has always been the Gateway to the Atlantic & the 3 giants (Eagle, Dragon & Bear) have known this throughout the 20th Century.

Had warfare since WWII ever went nuclear, whether we had them or not, we were targeted & not because of our "special relationship" with the Yanks - UK is strategically placed.

Dear old Winnie hit the nail on the head when he stated that "Britain is an unsinkable Aircraft Carrier" & that'll never change unless muppets like Salmond take total control of this island - that happens, they'll be plenty of banana boats departing these shores rather than entering.

As for the fools that attended Molesworth & Greenham Common, just how do they think they got the freedom to do that?

Smacking Adolf on the wrist & saying "naughty boy, go play somewhere else?"

The Yanks got it right over Cuba.

Next Wednesday, the world will see one of two things........

1: A country showing its respect for one of the world's greatest leaders since FDR & WS Churchill

or

2: Selfish pigmies showing the world that the future Britain is one to be constantly taken advantage of as its not to be trusted.

We're already seeing a start to no 2 with some refusing to attend her funeral - shame on them!

Funeral invitation list

Any that get arrested & charged in any protest should be given a £1000 fine as well as a 90 day custodial sentence - maybe they'll think twice next time.

Sidenote: I'm certainly not a Maggie lover, but it cannot be faulted that she saved Britain especially with what we had before her.

...it also proves that should they be given the opportunities they need, they will be able to take the country upwards & onwards....

I will support that view.

I am also pleased to report that a famous British carpet brand has been saved.

Axminster Carpets.

Latest

I have had a guided tour around the factory and also been to the nearby factory outlet. First class news.

Now if only.....

Soldiering On

Comments to the article really says it all about the pen pushers......

"A sign of the times.....the M.O.D decides to buy from overseas.....very patriotic."

"typical of this government buy from overseas not a patriot amongst the lot of them cowards and traitors."

Lovely teachers we have in this country....

The witch is dead Teachers

& a famous anti-establishment celebrity of that time gives his answer....

Johnny Rotten attacks hate mobs

"'When someone dies, give them respect. Enemy or not. I can't be listening to folk who do that.

'What kind of politics are they offering me? You dance on another person's grave? That's loathsome.'"

Well said Johnny.

Sidenote: Going to be an interesting Panorama show this evening (BBC 1 22:35 BST).

Edit: Oops, a mistake.... that should be Question Time :)

What a "superior" education does for one.......

Thatcher protest mastermind

Best comment seen so far.....

"Some mastermind, who is prepared to listen to someone who is not old enough to know anything about Mrs Thatcher's tenure of power except what he has been told by left wing bigots. If people listen to this misguided buffoon it proves that there is indeed one born every minute."

Well, you can have one from me then, here is one someone else compiled. Sadly it is not comprehensive. She really was the worst thing that happened to the UK.

I am sorry to see so many apologists here. I had hoped you had more sense.

"

Margaret Thatcher was the most divisive and polarising politic leader of the last century. This is an incomplete list of why many of us fall on the side that does not regard her with anything other than odium…

1. She supported the retention of capital punishment
2. She destroyed the country's manufacturing industry
3. She voted against the relaxation of divorce laws
4. She abolished free milk for schoolchildren ("Margaret Thatcher, Milk Snatcher")
5. She supported more freedom for business (and look how that turned out)
6. She gained support from the National Front in the 1979 election by pandering to the fears of immigration
7. She gerrymandered local authorities by forcing through council house sales, at the same time preventing councils from spending the money they got for selling houses on building new houses (spending on social housing dropped by 67% in her premiership)
8. She was responsible for 3.6 million unemployed - the highest figure and the highest proportion of the workforce in history and three times the previous government. Massaging of the figures means that the figure was closer to 5 million
9. She ignored intelligence about Argentinian preparations for the invasion of the Falkland Islands and scrapped the only Royal Navy presence in the islands
10. The poll tax
11. She presided over the closure of 150 coal mines; we are now crippled by the cost of energy, having to import expensive coal from abroad
12. She compared her "fight" against the miners to the Falklands War
13. She privatised state monopolies and created the corporate greed culture that we've been railing against for the last 5 years
14. She introduced the gradual privatisation of the NHS
15. She introduced financial deregulation in a way that turned city institutions into avaricious money pits
16. She pioneered the unfailing adoration and unquestioning support of the USA
17. She allowed the US to place nuclear missiles on UK soil, under US control
18. Section 28
19. She opposed anti-apartheid sanctions against South Africa and described Nelson Mandela as "that grubby little terrorist"
20. She support the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia and sent the SAS to train their soldiers
21. She allowed the US to bomb Libya in 1986, against the wishes of more than 2/3 of the population
22. She opposed the reunification of Germany
23. She invented Quangos
24. She increased VAT from 8% to 17.5%
25. She had the lowest approval rating of any post-war Prime Minister
26. Her post-PM job? Consultant to Philip Morris tobacco at $250,000 a year, plus $50,000 per speech
27. The Al Yamamah contract
28. She opposed the indictment of Chile's General Pinochet
29. Social unrest under her leadership was higher than at any time since the General Strike
30. She presided over interest rates increasing to 15%
31. BSE
32. She presided over 2 million manufacturing job losses in the 79-81 recession
33. She opposed the inclusion of Eire in the Northern Ireland peace process
34. She supported sanctions-busting arms deals with South Africa
35. Cecil Parkinson, Alan Clark, David Mellor, Jeffrey Archer, Jonathan Aitkin
36. Crime rates doubled under Thatcher
37. Black Wednesday – Britain withdraws from the ERM and the pound is devalued. Cost to Britain - £3.5 billion; profit for George Soros - £1 billion
38. Poverty doubled while she opposed a minimum wage
39. She privatised public services, claiming at the time it would increase public ownership. Most are now owned either by foreign governments (EDF) or major investment houses. The profits don’t now accrue to the taxpayer, but to foreign or institutional shareholders.
40. She cut 75% of funding to museums, galleries and other sources of education
41. In the Thatcher years the top 10% of earners received almost 50% of the tax remissions
42. 21.9% inflation"

Some "correct" answers to the above claims.......

Which of these PM's sacked the most miners?

I'm 67 years old, there once was a time when I aspired to own British products. Since Thatcher's era and the conversion to banking as a major industry I no longer aspire to put my money in British goods and services, especially the banks.

Funeral rehearsal

..just hope that everything goes off without a hitch on Wednesday.

Think its time that the famous "Bulldog Spirit" of Britain comes to the fore once again with those wishing to protest staying at home & arguing amongst themselves.

The BBC coverage of Thatchers funeral has just finished, and let me be the first to say that it was a fitting tribute that she deserved. Britain is the only country in the world that could put on an event like that, and get it right.

As PM Cameron said today

"I think it will be quite a sombre event, but it is a fitting tribute to a great prime minister respected around the world, and I think other countries in the world would think Britain had got it completely wrong if we didn't mark this in a proper way," Asked about those who wanted to challenge his view of Lady Thatcher, the prime minister said: "Of course people have the right to disagree and take a different view. But when you're mourning the passing of an 87-year-old woman who was the first woman prime minister, who served for longer in the job than anyone for 150 years I think it's appropriate to show respect."

Nothing I want to add.

Cameron could earn himself a similar burial in time if he was just to turn round
and give Europe a poke in the eye. Tell Europe that these are the terms we wish
to operate under as members of this union. If you don't like them then we're off.
They'll accept his terms...they actually have no choice but to accept.
