Well I just downloaded Lunatics Apps to both the Garage Cruncher and the faster Laptop. Not sure how to see how much faster they are running.

Just compare runtimes on the website, make sure you compare Wu's of the same Angle Range though:

All tasks for computer 6690094

All tasks for computer 6686564

Having the Laptop on 186.21 drivers is going to be a problem, you won't be able to run the Cuda32 app as that requires 263.xx or later drivers, and will likely be short on RAM too,
Is it possible to update them, or is an Alienware laptop that is stuck at those drivers?

Check your Windows task manager(CTRL+SHIFT+ESC) and see if there are different apps running than previously

In the process tab, you can sort it by CPU usage to find the SETI apps easy.

The SETI@HOME screensaver/Graphics is gone, which is normal I guess if your running Lunatics Apps.

Yes I see the two seti processes on the Laptop. The usage is higher than the rest.

Yes, normal, a trivial optimization: dont waste CPU time on graphics calculations...

As expected, SETI apps (optimized or not) are really using the CPU unlike any other apps that are ussually idle waiting for the user to do something...

Do their names start with AK_v8b? If yes, the installation was successful.

Yes, I understand that, but wouldn't I see Lunatics in the task mgr also? From watching this PC now, it looks like the percentage of the task is moving faster than before.

Lunatics = AK_v8b_*.exe

where * depends on which version you installed.

the speed depends on the Work. If its a VLAR it will take a long time if its a VHAR expect a short run time. The best way to compare is to find your angle ranges AR's on each WU before the optimization and after. compare similar WU's and you should see around a major decrease in crunching times

It should actually be

AK_v8b2_*.exe

since a bugfix last year, but the principle is sound.

Ok, I got it properly installed on the Garage Cruncher, but the laptop shows the Lunatics app, but there are two tasks waiting to run, that were running before.

Back in the days of SETI Classic, disabling the SEETI graphic improved crunching by nearly 40%. It just shows how much CPU resource was wasted on eye candy.
It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues

Thanks everyone for the help with The Lunatics stuff and what not. It all seems to be working fine. I like the Boinc sreensaver with the time remaining and a bar graph. Thats cool.

The final thing that I am looking at now is the laptop was running two tasks which I suspended during the 2nd Lunatics install. On the Boinc smple view it states waiting to run at 84%. In the advanced view it still shows those two tasks as waiting to run, but has started running two others. Wiil te two that are waiting start again, and will the simple view ever work again?
I must say the old Garage cruncher is humming along waaaaay faster than before. I don't see much of a change on the laptop.
