It's less unhealthy to light your cigarette with a lighter than with matches.

Not the fact I'm looking for but contains another word from my answer!

Lighter - Yes

What is the most BASIC fact you might think about them.

Both Matches and Lighters use friction as an ignition source.

Both Matches and Lighters use friction as an ignition source.

Also probably not actually true.

OK I don't think anyone is close so.

Think Matches. Think lighters, then, think chicken and egg.

It is easier to cook an egg with a lighter than a chicken with a match! (LOL)

The cigarette Lighter was invented in 1816 by German Chemist JW Dobereiner.
The match was invented in 1826 by English Chemist John Walker.

I think i may have picked a tricky topic again, there are a great many unusual things about bananas, but after enough gassing we're bound to reach the one i had in mind.

Ok Simonator, I'll take your use of the words "gassing around" to be a clue.

Bananas are picked very green and very unripe because in that state they can be shipped long distances more easily without bruising. They are kept in very carefully controlled environments and eventually ethylene gas is used to ripen them.

(I read a really interesting book this year entitled Banana: The Fate Of The Fruit That Changed The World. If you are interested in botany, geo-political issues and human nature, this book is for you!)

It was indeed.

Ripening, and subsequently decomposing, bananas produce ethylene gas. Many fruits' ripening process involves a small amount of ethylene to trigger other enzyme processes, but bananas produce so much they will ripen other fruit near them.

I think you were close enough Angela, your turn.
