By the way, "Is any business in operation in the UK actually paying any
corporate tax...seems not to be, no wonder our personal taxation is so high here!!
most probably the same throughout the world too. America, don't worry about
increasing the the tax take from the rich, just make sure that your businesses
are paying enough first, you could be having the same problem over there that we
are having here in the UK...and that is, the only ones paying any real contribution in tax's are the workers.

It is about time this sort of evasion is dealt with both internationally and domestically.

Note: California Public Employee Unions are running thank you ads for the recent vote not to pass proposition 32, which would have limited union contributions in elections.

Frankly I feel neither unions or corporations should be allowed to make political contributions. Both should be allowed to send letters to their members or stock holders explaining how their votes would feather their nests and the individuals could then decide. I suspect many would reject the corporate or union political goals.

Oh they will hunt me down for this ...

A sales tax of 25% on political contributions and political advertisements. Now that is a tax even a Norquist republican should support.

I like it -- don't think Norquist would though. I'd add an additional tax -- per political phone call.

25% on anything over $100 from an individual or corporation. I'm willing to allow up to $100 to be tax free after that you're trying to influence candidates

No loophole? Best craft that to be annually for all candidates and campaigns combines or they will find a way around it.

nope you can put $100 towards "anything you want" campaign. anything over $100 annually spend on Political campaigns would be taxed.

I have been thinking about this and I see two things that in a "free society" we can do to stop this.

Remember anyone can be a share holder as I was on a couple of occasions. As a share holder I would expect the company I held shares in to be doing there utmost to "legally" make as much money as possible for me and my fellow shareholders. If countries make it easy to avoid paying tax then my company should take all opportunities to help provide for my pension. If I have share in an English company that finds loopholes in American/German/French tax laws I might well feel "go for it" not our fault they are sloppy!!

So how can we stop this:

1 - Make sure that there are no loopholes companies can exploit.

or

2 - Take ALL companies into public ownership and all surplus profit goes to the government.

Remember human nature will still step in. If there is a way to "cheat" humans will find it!!

This sounds quite a bit like the wrangling that corporations put state and local authorities through when they decide that they want huge tax breaks to move to a city. They'd move there anyway but they want to see how much they can get.

One of the biggest tax avoiders is Walmart. It holds elevated sales taxes over the city, state, and village it intends to pillage in order to get tax free land for 10 years or more. What they neglect to say is that Walmart draws off sales tax from existing businesses and may force the closure of many local businesses. The end net result is not actual tax gain and walmart wins
