The Dogone people of east africa wearnt found till 1928. Their folklore said we originated from a dim red star orbiting Sirius. This star was indeed there with a elipitical orbit that showed in their folklore around sirius. Mind you this star can only be seen by a large telescope. How,d they know it was there thus indeed Sirius B is there. |

I already refuted this the last time you asserted it. It has been proven that the Dogone people had no prior knowledge to Sirius B. They simply had a belief in being visited from Extraterrestrials from another planet, and they were guided by Griaule's own interests into answering the location of Sirius B as the home planet of the visitors. In fact, many "advanced" civilizations have visited Africa throughout history, and any of them could seem "extraterrestrial" to the Dogone people, who would think their technology was indistinguishable from magic. Also in case of fact, when Walter van Beek studied the Dogon, he found no evidence they knew Sirius was a double star or that Sirius B is extremely dense and has a fifty-year orbit. Quote from Walter Van Beek: Knowledge of the stars is not important either in daily life or in ritual [to the Dogon]. The position of the sun and the phases of the moon are more pertinent for Dogon reckoning. No Dogon outside of the circle of Griaule's informants had ever heard of sigu tolo or po tolo... Most important, no one, even within the circle of Griaule informants, had ever heard or understood that Sirius was a double star (Ortiz de Montellano). And according to Thomas Bullard: [Griaule] wished to affirm the complexity of African religions and questioned his informants in such a forceful leading manner that they created new myths by confabulation. ... he misinterpreted their references to other visible stars near Sirius as recognition of the invisible companion. The Dogone people had no prior knowledge of the stars, despite the lies you've been told. |

i'm not going to argue the specifics of whether every fact about the many ancient cultures with visitation myths were accurate or not (i definitely want to believe there is truth in it and what i do know for sure is that we are missing a large part of the picture in relation to ancient super cultures), but regardless, we should be analyzing any and every one of those mentioned star systems through SETI or SETI@home. If it were up to me, i'd prefer that my computers were analyzing the star systems that ancient humans seemed particularly interested in- i mean what's the harm in that? I can't ignore the fact that the Egyptians, Mayans, etc.. knew "more than they were supposed to" about the stars and the physical properties of earth. For people who are interested in that sort of thing (i know i love it), i recommend reading Fingerprints of the Gods by Graham Hancock, and a few of Robert Bauval's books as well, including The Orion Mystery and Black Genesis. My lady and I happened to spend our whole morning on Memorial Day (yesterday) watching all 5 episodes of a miniseries called "The Pyramid Code", and we both loved it. It is available on Netflix streaming, and also on Youtube.com. Definitely recommend it. |

Well I can confirm with 100% fact that Sirius B has already sent 3521 transmissions to the Seti project....... :) |

LOL Sirius. (How u been?) I keep an open mind as well, I think it's so important as you get older and more cantankerous. However, just because someone painted some pictures of a constellation doesn't make for good science. There's just no good reason to be looking there specifically. I'd rather we focus on areas that have provided good candidate signals in the past. #resist |

Fine thanks. Yep, agree, we should be looking towards points where it's possible life could exist. |

Yanivicious: I'm not opposed to the idea of the possibilities of , well , anything, in the past. For the same reason you stated: There is way too much unrecorded history. The unrecorded history dwarfs our recorded history. I think there will be many interesting discoveries to be made. Thanks for the series recommendation, I'm definitely going to check it out. #resist |

Good post Yarnivicious. Also try Von Daniken and Duncan Lunans writings. i have a few of von daniken's books, also zecharia stitchens. but the books i mentioned before are better for the "skeptics" among us. hancock and bauval's books are a little more "grounded in fact" and probably easier for the skeptics among us to digest. i love them all though :) another video recommendation; "Out of the Blue" - Narrated by Peter Coyote http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYPCKIL7oVw this will be my go to video from now on for showing those who are uninformed about the alien question. most of the video centers around reputable sources including astronauts, presidents, governers, colonels, scientists, etc.. A good video for the skeptics.. |

Good post Yarnivicious. Also try Von Daniken and Duncan Lunans writings. The problem is that some people seem to equate a high ranking official as a reputable source for things out of their expertise. This is the entire basis for such directors, conspiracy theorists, and the like. The problem is further obscured by the fact that many of the people questioned make assumptions or jump to conclusions based upon observations that are partly out of their field of expertise, but because they have a doctorate, or a respected public official, people will put more weight into their opinions than they should. Its terrible research on the behalf of film producers, writers, directors, and editors like this that confuse the public by trying to create a case in favor and give validity to the alien visitation theories. Penn and Teller do a great job of exposing such horrible conspiracy theories such as what your video expounds: Penn and Teller Bullshit - Area 51 part 1 Penn and Teller Bullshit - Area 51 part 2 Penn and Teller Bullshit - Alien Abductions part 1 Penn and Teller Bullshit - Alien Abductions part 2 (Warning, the above videos have adult language) Watch those videos before believing the bs on the "out of the blue" UFO movie. |

The problem is that some people seem to equate a high ranking official as a reputable source for things out of their expertise. This is the entire basis for such directors, conspiracy theorists, and the like. If aliens ever did visit this planet then any hard evidence of this has long past disappeared. We would then now have to rely on evidence of advanced technology having come into play regarding knowledge suddenly gained by our ancestors that would only have been possible with the use of advanced technology only now having become available to us here today. Still, our best chance of finding evidence of alien existence is by searching, as we are now, the universe around us. I hap't to come across a web site yesterday, purporting to be a serious site,? said that three alien spacecraft are travelling towards Earth. At the moment they are just passing Pluto or Mars, one of the two anyway. Seems to me that they are travelling quite slow, doesn't say much about advanced alien technology then does it. At this slow speed then where ever they have come from then the occupants inside are likely to be dead by now....do get a move-on boys for at this speed your a sitting duck for an intergalactic missile or two. Also, do watch-out for the Scrap-Metal belt, Earth first line of defense against alien attacks. Pass through this, unprotected, and you may get a nasty surprise. I have no problem looking for scientific evidence of an existence of aliens, but I have a large problem with so-called eye witness reports or former high ranking public officials, or even some scientists who are using their own data to formulate and assert an opinion unproven to the masses who will believe everything they say. What's worse, is that if given the truth, but it isn't what alien hunters want to hear, then it must be a cover-up. They're already convinced, they just want some validation for which there is none. If there were proof, it would be wide-spread. There is no way any government would be coordinated enough to hide alien visitations for over 50 years. Men In Black was a fictional movie, not a documentary. |

so you think things like phoenix lights were just flares? a dozen different officers on different nights were hallucinating at rendelsham forest? how did ufo's hover above nuclear missile bases and disable over a dozen nuclear missiles on independent electrical systems, separated by miles, with multiple eyewitnesses present? Countless professional airline pilots and military pilots have attested not only to seeing UFO's and the near impossible maneuvers they make, but seeing UFO's the size of many football fields which is obviously many times larger than any man made vehicles; why would a plane full of people or pilots with their jobs and reputations at risk make things like that up? Many of those cases are backed up with radar evidence. Astronauts like Edgar Mitchel have come out recently and said they know for sure that the gov't has been covering up existence of ET's, and Gordon Cooper claims he saw them first hand. Also, why all the cloak and dagger secrecy on the part of the government? I could go on and on but I'm just trying to make a point here.. Where there's smoke there's fire. I know this is a scientific project, and skepticism is extremely necessary in a field like this because 99% of sightings, abductions, ET stories are obviously BS.. But not 100% of them. |

If you watch those Penn and Teller Bullshit episodes I linked to, it'll explain those questions you asked. Yes, 100% of them are all faked. |

Even if you don't like them, they had a crack team of experts working for them when they were doing the show. Lots of good topics, and lots of proper critical thinking. |

If as some suspect we are being visited by aliens then how in the heck did they manage to find us here in the first place? If you watch those Penn and Teller Bullshit episodes I linked to, it'll explain those questions you asked. Nope. I don't buy that. Something goes on with UFOs. I dunno what they are or where they are from, and I assume it's a different answer in many cases. There is just way too much footage. And the fact that the amount of good footage has increased steadily in recent years as phones have given people a video camera in their pockets at all times, tells me something happens. When people all over a city end up with the same objects on video, something happened. I don't know how you can take an incident that gets videotaped by the masses, and refute it. Something happened. What it is I do not know, but it's something. there ARE many many hoaxes. But not this many... #resist |
