Hm... I have nothing attached to onboard GPU too. And only HD6900 driver listed in device manager. Maybe it was just coincidence? And not driver uninstall helped but just reboot in process of uninstallation? ... @Ageless Could you give AP tasks more attention again and look if after Intel driver removal there is no GPU low usage bug on your host indeed?

@Ageless Sure, I'll re-enable AP on ATI. For the record, I don't have any monitor attached to the VGA outlet on the motherboard either. Only to the ATI card. I wasn't using the Intel HD graphics, but apparently that doesn't matter for installing the drivers or not. I have now disabled it in Device Manager, as extra security measure. ____________ Jord - BOINC FAQ Service - BOINC User Wiki Real is just a matter of perception.

The new tasks should come in with ETA around 9.4 hours since the APR limiting is still at ten times whatever <flops> the host is sending. You might end up with about 25 tasks per core with a 10 day cache setting if the supply is good enough. But then the first one completed will boost DCF to compensate. Follow-up. Got a new task this morning. ETA: 06:02:15. The last task I had before I got that one was 77:38:41. Because of the way DCF and estimates work, it took about 20 to go from a little over 200 down to about 175, 15 more to drop down to about 125, and about five to get down to about 75. I imagine it would have only taken about 5 or so more for the ETA to be pretty close anyway. ____________ Linux laptop uptime: 1484d 22h 42m Ended due to UPS failure, found 14 hours after the fact

And some more tasks showed up with an ETA of 04:41:47.

I personally don't think that they'll ever get those estimates fixed. I've got 1 file batch telling me 8hrs then newer file batch telling me 77hrs then I just completed another from a different batch again in 4.5hrs. :(

NVM - Posted question in a new thread...
| ID: 1226453 · | |
@Ageless So far I found that this bug disappears when some cores leaved free, w/o restarting GPU app. So, latest Cat drivers not able to get CPU when needed, even if busy with idle-priority process. Freeing even 1 core of 4 hugely improves GPU load when low GPU load observed, w/o restarting GPU app. So, situation on AMD side not too differs in its results from situation on NV side. On NV OpenCL app takes full core for synching, and AMD it needs full core to be adequately fast. In both cases 1 CPU core goes to waste...

I'm new to gpu computing. I have a nvidia 4200, windows 7 (64bit). I had a very old driver, so I installed 12.4, and then used the 0.4 installer to install lunatic. I saw on the thread that 12.4 doesn't work well with lunatic, so I installed 12.1.

I'm new to gpu computing. I have a nvidia 4200, windows 7 (64bit). That's an AMD GPU, maybe a HD2400? That's an old model, with mot much video RAM. I'm not familiar with AMD video hardware but the lack of memory may be an issue. I'm also seeing project backoff errors during download. Bandwidth is always maxed out here, so downloads are always a problem. The excessive backoffs with 6.12.xx clients make trying to get work even more difficult. 7.x.xx is meant to be better in that regard. The last few lines of the event log look like this: setiathome_enhanced version 603 are CPU Work Units. Absent output file, from a quick search, may relate to permission issues, or even a scrabled file system. Running Chkdsk would probably be a good start. Open Explorer, right click on the drive BOINC is on (most likely C:), Properties, Tools tab, Error checking. ____________ Grant Darwin NT.

Am I missing something simple? 1) "Temporarily failed download" is quite usual when the Internet link at the servers is overloaded (which is that way most of the time and everybody have this "problem" with downloads): http://fragment1.berkeley.edu/newcricket/grapher.cgi?target=%2Frouter-interfaces%2Finr-250%2Fgigabitethernet2_3;view=Octets 2) I don't know what you mean by "I have a nvidia 4200" but if you talk about Computer 6560195 http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=6560195 ... it have: CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) II X4 630 Processor [Family 16 Model 5 Stepping 2] Coprocessors AMD ATI Radeon HD 2300/2400/3200 (RV610) (256MB) driver: 1.4.1720 Operating System Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium x64 Edition, Service Pack 1, (06.01.7601.00) So: a) For your CPU errors: From Lunatics ReadMe.txt (found in ...\BOINC\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu\docs\) and also available on the Lunatics site: http://lunatics.kwsn.net/index.php?module=Downloads;sa=dlview;id=328 http://lunatics.kwsn.net/downloads/Lunatics%20ReadMev0.40.txt "ATTENTION: If you have an AMD CPU running under 64 bit, you HAVE to choose the MB application labeled 'AMD', as the others will not work. If you are running an AMD CPU under 32 bit non-AMD labeled apps may or may not work. If the app is incompatible, you are likely to see tasks erroring out very quickly with 'output file absent' recorded in the log." b) You say "I saw on the thread that 12.4 doesn't work well with lunatic, so I installed 12.1" but the version "1.4.1720" is Not Catalyst 12.1 (= 1.4.1664) http://www.hal6000.com/seti/boinc_ati_gpu_cheat_sheet.htm c) But the driver version may not matter (i.e. you can stay on 1.4.1720 if it works) because for that older GPU the only app in the Lunatics Installer that may work is: AP6_win_x86_SSE_Brook_r555 ____________ - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :)

c) this looks promisting. I looked at kwsn.net for ap6_win?x86_ss_r55e with no hits. I googled it as well, nothing. Where could I find it? Is there an ancient history archive somewhere? The exact application name is 'AP6_win_x86_SSE2_OpenCL_ATI_r555.exe', but you don't have to google it or download it separately - it's one of the applications included in the v0.40 installer - even a default choice, IIRC.

For CPU apps Agreed, He most likely has an onboard GPU that is only capable of using the Brooks Hybrid app for AP WU's. running MB won't work at all ____________ Proud member of TSWB. End terrorism by building a school

... The Lunatics v0.40 installer includes the AP6_win_x86_SSE_Brook_r555.exe file, you just need to choose it. Joe

For CPU apps This is 100% the case. It seems like the problem is that I'm using a stone age graphics card. I'm planing to upgrade in the near future anyway, I can move the upgrade up by a few months. How about I just leave things as they are and see if they work better on the new card? ____________

How about I just leave things as they are and see if they work better on the new card? If you "leave things as they are" (= wrong apps) you will generate errors. Either return to stock/standard apps (Remove/Add project) or run again the Lunatics Installer (Lunatics_Win64_v0.40_setup.exe) and choose the proper apps - AMD for CPU and nothing for GPU P.S. ap_6.01r557_SSE2_331_AVX.exe work OK and is faster on my AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3500+ http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=67407&nowrap=true#1213064 ____________ - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :)

How about I just leave things as they are and see if they work better on the new card? OK. I'm about to install a spanking new Radeon HD6570. Everything has been trucking along since the last update, with benchmarks around 6600 dhrystone. I still have the same CPU, and only have an interest in running SETI at the moment. If I'm getting this right, I can run lunaticswin6440.04.exe, set it for CPU (NO GPU), and it should optimize for the new card. Am I missing anything? ____________

A couple of comments on freeing one core, as a refinement but not as a recommendation. You mean your Radeon HD6570? Then you should fill in the ATI part of the installer. Or do you want to only run CPU? (Check CPU capabillities like SS(S)E3(x)4.1/4.2). Why don't you use your 'spanking new Radeon HD6570', you can run MB and AstroPulse work which works amazingly effective on an ATI 5000 or higher series. A runtime of less then 1 hour to a few hours, CPU time is very depending on % of RADAR-Blanking. You can run multiple WUs per GPU and crashes are very rare, AV scans(!) disable them for BOINC also WINDOWs updates are the most common reasons. The rev.390 MB app. and rev.555 app. for AstroPulse are stable and haven't seen much errors from these. have a look at this host an i7-2600 and 2 ATI 5870 GPUs. I freed up one 'thread', 0.5 core of an i7 and used BOINCs setting: use 87.50 of CPU, I used your method in my app_info.xml trying to improve loading of the 2nd ATI 5870 GPU. But stopped running multiple WUs on a GPU, less effective, easier to compaire run-times v.s NVidia GPUs. Although GPU load running 1 a GPU are 67% average. (GPU 0, always has a higher load as GPU 1)! ____________ Knight Who Says Ni N!, OUT numbered.................
