And now we can celebrate that it's only 39,785 AP's out in the wild. Let's see how close to zero we will come before the new AP app is released and we can start splitting AP again. I'll put my bet on 2012-12-18. Since the world is suppose to end that week and everything. Well this was terrible and nerve wracking. I just attached three of my hosts to Beta. All of them got some AP 6.01, but only my Q8200 is running any of them yet. My other two hosts have to work on some of the WU's they have on main first it seems. I've seen that before, but thanks for reminding me. :D
A couple weeks ago, I went for lunch in our staff lounge. The server said her computer wasn't working and she started writing down what people bought and how much they paid for it. At first, I thought it was just a network problem, and since that's not my job, I let her boss call the IT people (who, it turns out, were all at another building for a meeting). A few minutes later, I realized it was just dead, so I started checking its power cords. The one on the computer was just loose enough to not work, but still looked like it was plugged in. She thanked me profusely. David Sitting on my butt while others boldly go, Waiting for a message from a small furry creature from Alpha Centauri. |

Two loose BNC cable-ends lying on the floor, next to the desk where the receptionist's computer had been... Our IT people like to give certain machines static IPs, which can cause problems when they try to manually assign an IP that DHCP has given to another computer. At least once, I saw the head IT guy in the building track down the computer that had it and go there to force it to drop its lease on the IP. Now if only my video cards would not keep dying on me. A week later I finally got my RMA number from Palit and sent off my GTX-560 this morning. Today I also will get a new heat sink to put on the i3 so I can get that machine back up and running work. Sometime this week I will also get a VGA cooler to see if I can get the HD-5830 running once again. |

Well not long after I tried 295.73 the core/shaders dropped by about half from 780 to 410 or so... 3 of my ASUS cards came with a default max voltage of 1.10v I flashed the BIOS on the 4th one to allow that higher voltage as well. Even at 1.087v, I was able to push into the upper 800's. Heck, I even ran at around 925mhz for a few weeks @ 1.10vs, but with 4 cards running on a single 360 radiator, temps were getting a little too high for my liking. Now that I'm back to 3x cards on that loop, I can probably go back up to those speeds. These 460's realllly love to overclock, they just need a little extra juice to get there. |

Now if only my video cards would not keep dying on me. Yeah, I hear Ya Arkayn, I just sent back a used EVGA GTX460 2WIN video card that was flaky and not as described. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

At least once, I saw the head IT guy in the building track down the computer that had it and go there to force it to drop its lease on the IP. I use reservations on my networks. Never know when DNS addresses for the ISP will change, and it's so much easier to change that in one place than many. Also, my solution for using static and DHCP in the same subnet is to have the pool be a smaller-than-max range and do the static addresses outside of the pool. For example, on a normal /24 network, set the pool to be 100-150, and it leaves you with 1-99,151-254 for static. Of course, your specific pool size may vary depending on need. Last job I had was at a technical college and each classroom had its own /24 class B subnet. The DHCP pool was 225-254, the network printer was .20, and the instructor's workstation was .100. That setup was only an issue in one classroom where virtualPC was used and therefore the pool needed to be 175-254. Now if only my video cards would not keep dying on me. Sometime this week I hope the tooth fairy will bring me a new Dell XPS 17 laptop with i7 processor, 8 GB of RAM and a 3 GB GT 555M video card ... if the order clerk managed to pick all the options I had on the printout I gave the professor. I'll have to let the Artist-in-Residence and the prof take it to holography conferences to demonstrate my reco software, but that's a small price to pay for enough capability to take my RAC into six digits. :-) |

I'm just lucky that I've got a few new things to play with lately, plus my original 2002 desktop was replaced last November, and this laptop replaces an Inspiron 5150 that cost Dell a lot during its warranty period (5 motherboards in 3 years...) but then ran reliably for another 5 years until now there's some issue with the power connector so it often fails to charge. |

Now if only my video cards would not keep dying on me. Got the new heat sink installed, cannot secure the motherboard because the fan is hitting the top mounted PSU. So it will have to live on it's side for a few weeks. Old heat sink/fan had the CPU at 80C+ at load, new heat sink has CPU at 55C at load. |

Just fillted an Antec 620 water cooler, for an easy install item, sheesh what a palava. I label ALL HDD & OD cables per sata port. 2 Disconnect everything... 3 Remove motherboard. 4 Remove CPU backplate & Fitt cooler backplate. 5 Fitt Cooler fan & rad to case. 6 Refitt motherboard [wont go due to cooler rad obsctucting it] 7 Remove cooler Rad & Fan. 8 Refitt mobo. 9 Refitt Cooler Rad & Fan assy. 10 Reconnect all cable assy's 11 Check for anything not looking 'right' 12 Fitt cpu cooler block and tighten down. 13 Cross Fingers 14 Power up Rig. 15 No power up 16 Check PSU and switch damm thing back on! 17 Rig boots to main OS 18 Win7 finds somthing new loads driver and wants to reboot..arrrghhhh. 19 reboot 20 Login to main OS 21 fire up CPUZ HW monitor. 22 Watch temps looking good 33C Cores 23C 23 Watch temps go up to 44C overal CPU Cores 30.2C Wonder why my rig is so quiet, then realise MSI afterburner did NOT load as usual and so GPU fans not at 99% and GPU temps at 77C 24 manually start Afterburner and temps go to 57C & 63C for gtx460 & gtx560 25 Drink coffee and smoke cig. 26 Wonder why I keep on doing this upgrade stuff:-) Cheers, Cliff, Been there, Done that, Still no damm T shirt! |

Cliff, I also put Antec H620s in both my rigs last week. Temps are at 48c-50c on all cores while crunching. I didn't think they were much harder to install than any of the large air-coolers I have used. I used to be a cruncher like you, then I took an arrow to the knee. |

The Actual Install isnt that hard, its all the palava to get to the point of being able to install thats the problem, and it would have been so easy to avoid those hassles by making the mount fit to the existing backplate. The mounting holes are all in the same place.. All it needed was a bit of forethought and the provision of screws that would fit the standard mountings. I'm using an old 3d aurora case, so theres no hole in the mobo tray to get at the CPU mount.. Cost me a bomb when I 1st got it, now an el cheapo case costing under £50 has got a hole in the tray and fitting the kit would have been easier. Its also got provision for mounting top fans, and I put 2 x 80mm ones in. But my 2nd rig is in that case and the CPU isnt getting too hot, so no need for fluid cooling so far. I had to scrap the old case the Q6600 was in as the location for the radiator/fan was for a 80mm fan. I got another Antec 300 to put it in and as you said having the cutout in the tray is a must anymore. I used to be a cruncher like you, then I took an arrow to the knee. |

At least once, I saw the head IT guy in the building track down the computer that had it and go there to force it to drop its lease on the IP. Well, this was a few years ago, so maybe those techniques hadn't been developed yet. Or it could be the offending computer had been holding that IP for weeks or months, since before they decided to give it to a different one as a static. Dr Eric has put a bowl of goodies on the table (see news). They look sooo delicous. There's a Seti@home v7 on my accounts page too. So long awaited, I want to savour the moments. Will it be as good as i hope? AndrewM |

The advantage of the BOINC Manager is that the user can attach to different projects in one separate program (or application) and if necessary attach to an account manager as well. For PrimeGrid, the other project I am currently running, I do have several different task types available to me based on the preferences I choose. I run all the tasks which are available for my platform there, except one which needs a little more drive space than the rest. I am a little loaded on my discs, so for now I choose to skip these tasks. But for a preferred version of BOINC Manager, like 6.10.58 and 6.12.34 - right now there seem to be only two or three different types of tasks being available for Seti@home, namely Seti@home Enhanced 6.03, and Seti@home Enhanced 6.10 (cuda_fermi). So right now, I am in fact checking the Seti@home Preferences under my account. Indeed, the list of options for the tasks being currently available has been updated. Now I can choose between Seti@home Enhanced, Astropulse v5, Astropulse v505, Seti@home v7 and AstroPulse v6. Hopefully the CUDA-option for the running of tasks is still available as well. So which one(s) to choose (or not to choose)? Is everything up and ready to go now? |

Hopefully the CUDA-option for the running of tasks is still available as well. The CUDA-option is "Use NVIDIA GPU" in the same place as the other applications you listed. Linux laptop: record uptime: 1511d 20h 19m (ended due to the power brick giving-up) |
