How will you get 12 GPUs in one system? Six dual chip GPU cards?

Very carefully, Correct, now guess on how their to be cooled and powered...

More like water and two psus totaling 2150w(1500w+650w), this will need one big case, so far only Xigmatek has one that fits the bill and doesn't break the bank, the Elysium. I'm thinking of naming It Nova, I'm a BSG fan and the NOVA class was supposed to have a ship built named Galactica, but only 3 ships out of 6 were ever built according to the wiki.

... Although, checkout this system that someone built that has 7 GTX580s! Water cooled of course.

He's running linux and somewhere he stated that Windows would not boot with all 7 GPUs installed. Does anyone know if Windows 7 has a max number of GPUs limit?

That looks nicely done. Certainly shows the advantage of water cooling the GPUs.

Happy fast crunchin',

I am just in the planning stage right now for that new super boinc build. But I think I am leaning towards a more realistic approach with "just" 4 GPUs with a dead slot between them. It will be built over time, but starting this spring.

Cheers,
Greg

He probably tried to do this with drivers older than 270.xx with Win7, but that's just a guess. Two ST1500 Strider 1500w psus, impressive.

He says it was only built for a certain task.
I wonder what that task is ?

[quote]I understand that SSDs will wear out with the constant writing and deleting of those thousands of WUs.

Maybe in 8-15 years.

That depends on (other) usage and utilisation... With data misalignment causing write amplification, an online review shows an SSD likely wearing our in less than a year. ...

Can you remember the web site?

See:
Intel's SSD 710: Making Enterprise Storage More Affordable?

Thanks for that.
I haven't been able to find the article i was thinking of, but here's a mention of SSD life expectancy as part of a review on a drive. Even allowing for write amplification you've got to do a lot of writing to wear out a drive.
SSD writes- life expectancy.

I've been messing around with my Red cruncher, not as crazy as 7 GTX 580s, but still some series crunching HP.

Thanks, though I'd still like to hide a few more wires, it will have to wait. Still haven't found a good way to clean up the PCIe cables, there just a little to short to hide behind the MB.

I've been brainstorming what a project similar to Atlas Folder might look like using modern hardware and this is what I've come up:

Motherboard: ASUS P8P67 WS REVOLUTION
CPU: Intel Core i5-2500
CPU cooler: COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 EVO
Memory: CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1600
PSU: 2x SeaSonic X Series X650
Video Card: 4x Asus GTX 590
Hard drive: Western Digital VelociRaptor 150GB
Case: Custom build "Spotswood" stack-able tray
OS: Windows 7

1 tray would run around $4K, but would be what I'd all the current Ultimate Cruncher. To do something the size of Atlas Folder project would run $24K and would be worlds faster since it was based on GTX 295s.
