Every time I start BOINC, I'm getting unrecoverable errors for both SETI units and CPDN units: 2004-11-15 08:03:49 [SETI@home] ACTIVE_TASK::parse(): result is in wrong state 2004-11-15 08:03:52 [climateprediction.net] Unrecoverable error for result 3i0q_100184964_0 (CreateProcess() failed - Access is denied. (0x5)) 2004-11-15 08:03:52 [climateprediction.net] CreateProcess() failed - Access is denied. (0x5) 2004-11-15 08:03:52 [climateprediction.net] ACTIVE_TASKS::restart_tasks(); restart failed: -148 I am running Windows XP SP2. The errors started recently, within the past week or two, and they came out of nowhere. What could this be? |

Looks like the user that is executing the application does not have the necessary permissions to execute. Check any personal firewall settings that you may have, including XP firewall installed as part of sp2. |

> The user is me and I have full administrator privileges. Windows firewall is > not on. Make a backup copy of your BOINC folder, before changing anything. Problem does look to be between BOINC & your host, as BOINC appears unable to spawn the application executable in memory (CreateProcess() failed - Access is denied. (0x5)). I don't suspect it is specific to any project as it happens to both CPDN & SAH. Is it both hosts, or only 6297? Could you post the first 20-30 lines of the messages tab, after you start the BOINC client? Other questions: Have you tried exiting BOINC and rebooting your host to clear any potentional lingering applications from memory? What is the BOINC installation folder? Is this folder shared? Check that the security permissions on the BOINC folder and all subfolders are set appropriately for yourself (or administrators group). (Read, Write, Modify & Execute at a minimum, perhaps Full Control if setting the former doesn't help). Is BOINC installed as a service, or are you running the GUI? Once BOINC is running, check the username corresponding to boinc_gui.exe (gui) or boinc_cli.exe (service) process and ensure it is correct. |

I believe that this has happened to both hosts, but it is usually just with 6297. I had no problems with it this morning, but when it reoccurs I will post the messages from the message tab. The BOINC installation folder is the default. It is not shared, and I have Full Control rights on the folder. I am running the GUI, and the process information when it is running seems to be correct. |

I'm beginning to suspect file corruption and/or hard disk failure are messing with your data, perhaps confusing OS permissions. > 2004-11-18 08:09:26 [climateprediction.net] Pausing result ¸Kà (left in > memory) That result name is very wrong. Are there any disk or disk controller events being logged in event viewer? Might be worthwhile investing in a second disk, moving your BOINC folder to that disk and executing it from there for a while to see if the problem persists. Alternatively, a new disk and OS re-install may be in your future. |
