Greetings folks,

This is just a request for help. We have a major brush fire, over 2000 acres burned, and many houses destroyed due to this fire. It started around 12:30am this morning. I'm asking if you are able to donate, to please do so through the American Red Cross, and mention it is for the families affected by this fire in the Reno, Nevada area. Anything at all will help. They are mainly asking for cash donations, but any gift cards to stores such as Walmart, Raleys, Smiths, Scolari's food, pre-paid visa/mastercards are all welcome.

If your wanting to know more about the status off the fire, you can visit many of our local news websites, http://www.rgj.com http://www.ktvn.com http://www.kolotv.com.

I want to personally thank you if you are able to donate. Please keep these families, and the first responders, firefighters, medical personnel in your thoughts and prayers.

Thanks

Jeremy

Being from Southern California I know all too well about brush fires. The plants on our hillsides are as bad as napalm when they get burning. Wind driven they can not be put out no matter how much man throws at them. The best that can be done is keep the swath of destruction from spreading latterly but the front burns until the weather changes, or here they reach the Pacific Ocean. I do see wet in your forecast. I hope it pours.

My prayers are with the victims. I hope this turns out not to be man caused.

Sometimes all man can do is run.

I hope it snows (pouring ice on a fire is somewhat more effective than pouring water on it.

I grew up in area that has recently had several fires > 90,000 acres.

Thanks Gary.

Here is a direct website to the Northern Nevada Red Cross Chapter, I do not know if you can designate your donation directly to the Reno Fire victims or not, however if you can also call 775-856-1000 and donate over the phone, and that way you can tell them you want it to go to these victims of the fire.

I again thank you all if you are able to donate, I know with it being holidays, the economy, its rough.

You and me both. We do have snow falling, but its not supposed to be a super wet storm. So, with the cooler temps, and the winds dying down, and the humidity going up, they are hopeful it will help. Its still 0% contained at this point, but its not moving as much now.

Thanks Donald. Don't know why it didn't, I must of messed up. LOL

And thanks Monday! I took the initial 911 call when it first started, and that person reported it was already 20 acres, which blew me away that it took that long for someone to call. Many people reported seeing a bright blue flash, which leads me to believe it was started by a transformer blowing up. They have not indicated the cause 100%, but I'm betting that was what it was.

They made some great progress on the fire last night. They were able to mop up a whole bunch of hot spots. They have 65% containment on it, which as of yesterday it was 0%, so thats great news.

Thank you again to everyone who is able to donate. It is greatly appreciated by the folks that are suffering in this disaster.

Well here I'd wish It would warm up, as the heater isn't working, but I hope the fire can be put out soon. Stay safe, We don't need a french fried Borg, that would be sad.

Somewhat old by now, but official.

I'm not so surprised at the delay in reporting. Everyone assumes when they are big that someone else has already reported it. Takes a while for them to realize no one is there fighting it.

We in Southern California haven't had a bad one this year, knock on wood. Could be because the last one burned nearly everything. At 160,577 acres the Station Fire was a monster. (If you are wondering I'm basically where the map says Sierra Madre)

Again I pray for the victims and the firefighters and am deeply saddened to hear that there has been loss of life and injuries.

Yeah, this is the biggest fire we've had this year. We had a few small ones around our area thru the summer, during brush fire season. We are out of brush season, and here we get this 2000+ acre fire. Nuts I tell ya. They are hoping by later tonight to have 95% containment. Which is awesome.

Nutz sounds about right, I remember living in San Gabriel and having ashes rain down on US from the mountains, thankfully the ash was not able to start any fires, as that's quite a ways from Sierra Madre, which is right up against the mountains.

Yeah, I agree. We had ash falling on us here from this fire, thankfully nothing to start any other fires. I wasn't very surprised though, as the 40-60MPH winds we were having, I expected it.

And If the wind changes direction someone else will get the smoke and ashes, Yeah, I know that all too well. The Distance is about 5-8 miles between San Gabriel CA and Sierra Madre CA, 7.5-7.7 according to Google maps, but as the crow flies, I have no idea.
