Finally I'm happy that one person has the correct answer. The city is Edinburgh Th location is toward the eastern end of Princes Street (one "s" is correct, its in honour of the Princes of Scotland, not a Princess) And the monument is the Scott Monument - sometimes called "Thunderbird 3", due to the likeness of TB3 to the Scott Monument.
