I'm guessing that an experiment 4 centuries ago would have been by Galileo, who dropped masses from the Pisa tower. So are we talking the river Arno?

Yes, and the bridge is Ponte di Mezzo, rebuilt in 1950 after many destructions.

My first thoughts were another antipodean country - New Zealand, the Carillon at the National War Memorial in Wellington. But the tower doesn't look quite right.

However the I do see a parking sign that is clearly Euro in nature.
