Several data drives did arrive from Arecibo today. These files are now being moved into the pipeline.

Jeff, thanks for the news!

Just got 346 new workunits. Most of them were recorded within the last 2 months. Nice to see fresh data come in. Good work guys!

Considering the ALFA receiver was off the telescope from the end of July until a few days ago, that is indeed the most recent data.

The Arecibo Legacy Fast ALFA survey began their fall observing campaign yesterday, see http://egg.astro.cornell.edu/alfalfa/scheds/asttimes/a2010_schedfall11.txt. That's excellent data for S@h analysis, and the next shipment from Arecibo should have a lot of it.

Have a read of the S@H Enhanced v6.04 thread over in Number Crunching.

Hi --- I just added a newish computer to my account and it seems to be unable to download any work units. With all the good news about wu's being distributed, I would have thought I'd have gotten some; help?

The download pipe is Maxed out, If you abort all your transfers you'll never get them downloaded, and now you have a Max tasks per day of 1 for that app, have patience.

My bad --- I mistakenly thought that having several dozen wu's in "downloading" mode for days on end and that SETI was frozen. So, obviously now I can only wait till things stabilize. Thank you for your help !!!

Data didn't like any of the ET's that he found, so he exterminated them all.

In an attempt to push some older unanalyzed files through the pipeline we encountered data that could not be successfully preprocessed or split. This has resulted in work distribution going to near zero. We are currently transferring newer files from off site storage and soon will be receiving a disk shipment from Arecibo. Once these data are on hand work distribution will pick up.

Oh no, not more data....

If ET isn't in the data from the last 12 years, then I don't think he will be found in even more data.

What we need is less of data, and more of ET :-)

That all depends...are they sending a constant signal? How about one that only lasted for so long before they stopped transmitting? Maybe we missed the signal, then again, it may not have gotten here yet. We just need to crunch the right work units that are pointed at the right part of the sky at the right time. That's a lot to comprehend. Even lotteries don't have such bad odds.

I can understand people screaming for more wu's. First of all, why have people joining teams if not for some healthy competition. Yes, the most important goal is to find ET. Everyone understands that, but a little fun and competition is, in my opinion, a very healthy incentive to donate more computer time. It is also fun to compete against your team members. My rac has fallen so far that it won't be too long that i'll be in negative numbers. I am still falling also. I hope this problem gets resolved soon so I can get back into the game and take an interest again in the competition. No matter what tho, I will not lose sight of the ultimate goal.

Sure, people like to compete. But the important thing to remember is that SETI never promised to provide work 24/7, let alone 8/5.

Are the data packets small enough to be accomplished within a month? I don't mind dedicating my main computer to analyzing only those packets to help catch up (credit or no). Just yell if there's anything i can do.

Mike, these are not packets, they are whole data files (50 GB) like the ones you see on the splitter status table. As I understand the problem, the data files had issues such that they could not be prepped and/or split into Work Units by the S@H servers, Unless/until they find a way to fix those data files, there is nothing anyone outside the project staff can do with that data.
