Nice pictures Angela, brought back memories. If I remember correctly, Kuopio is known for small fish baked into a loaf of bread. I loved it. Everywhere I went in Finland had a local special fish dish, usually fresh water, usually pickled in some way. That was good food.

As for the pizza thing, most Europeans use a knife and fork, and most Europeans have their own version of what they think is a pizza. I don't always agree with them, but then I'm basing that on the local version of pizza in the places where I grew up.

I always make an effort to eat locally when travelling. In the modern world everywhere I go has their version of pizza or a cheeseburger, but it usually isn't worth the time or the money.

I usually stick to the classics when traveling.... KFC, McDonalds.... I did learn one thing though. If offered local food try it first then ask what it is. I got many a delicious meal that I would never have tried if I knew what was in it.

@ Bill - I love to eat locally when traveling. That is one of the best parts of a trip for me! The reindeer pizza was a weak moment. Unlike in the states where one can get pretty much any kind of food at any time of the day, in Finland the lunch service generally ends at 3pm and restaurants do not accept customers after 3 until they start their dinner service in the evening. On the pizza day we had been busy site-seeing through lunch and suddenly we all got hungry. Eric's cousin said "All roads lead to pizza", so away we went...

@Pasi - Please post anything you wish here, pictures included!!! We would love to see whatever you would like to post!

@Chris - Darn! We missed that one...
