I wondered why he did the GM and Chrysler bail out. Isn't it grand that they are now owned by the Government. Oh wait. Damn facts are so much of a pain.

Obama believes in a socialist utopia.

Want the short answer or the long answer?

Rusty Lintball would say: All those auto jobs are union democratic votes ...

Greenspan would say: Systemic risk. (Translation, it won't be contained)

Me say: To prevent Social Security from being made private.

http://www.pbgc.gov/news/press/releases/pr12-06.html Can you imagine if those two pension plans were "discharged" in bankruptcy court? How much would hve been added? PBGC would fail or need a bailout. Then it would be obvious who was getting the real bailout.

God forbid Congress gets involved in pension reform. That would lead straight to reform of Social Security as it is the same thing, because it would force the issue onto the front burner. Imagine Social Security as a 401(k) ....

Oh as traditional pensions are mostly union contracts today, the block of voters might have something to do with it too.

Ah, so it is for votes -- makes sense, where is autocracy when you need it, right?

I sort of wonder about the 'Obama is a socialist (far from truth) and then socialism is theft.

I figure that if socialism is theft, what is an economic structure that sustains eight and nine figure annual compensation and nine to eleven figure accumulated wealth in the hands of people running entities aggressively 'dehousing' people and exporting jobs to where exploitation is easier. Not theft, that's perhaps too kind a word.

You noticed that -- I have company <smile>.

That being said, I recognized early on that social security was not going to provide a living in retirement -- I fed my 401's during the 20 years of corporate life, and fed my own accumulations, plus SEP's during the 15+ years of self-employed life. I moved those 401's into my control as soon as I could.

But then again, I understand the argument, let's eliminate mandatory health care, and social security, medicare and medicaid, then to top it off, eliminate the duty of care on health care providers -- as some yelled out during the reality show (TeaPublican debate), let them die if they don't have the money or insurance for emergency care. I figure if we have the poor, unemployed, and elderly die off faster, that will balance the budget in no time. And better yet, it would not be the 'theft' of socialism.

401k as an alternative to social security seems like a scheme for wall street to be able to skim more off of the public.

Doesn't your 401(k) offer the option to invest in US Government Bonds? Same thing Social Security invests in. Oh, you got suckered into the high risk equity portfolio. That was your choice, take responsibility and accountability for your choice.

That's the thing though -- you are assuming a degree of fiscal awareness for the common investor. Oh no wait, unless the common investor gets screwed, how can the knowledgeable investor (and the fund executives) make all that money. After all, that is capitalism as theft.

Survival of the fit. If you aren't fit, you don't survive. I know, you took underwater basket weaving, not finance in school. That was your choice, take responsibility and accountability for your choice.

When the prospectus says risk, only the fool takes the risk if they don't understand it. Just like CountryWide, Indy Mac Bank, CitiBank, BofA, Lehman Brothers, Goldman Sachs, GM, Chrysler, etc. didn't understand the risk. Look up Tulip Maina for the lesson. (When that lesson hits, think about the social security trust fund.)

It was your choice, take responsibility and accountability for your choice. Stop trying to blame someone else for your actions or inactions. It is your responsibility to educate yourself, no one but Mom or Dad is going to do that for you.

You can choose to make just enough, or you can choose to make a pile. It is your choice.

Again, it is your choice if you understand the prospectus. I mean I typically can figure them out -- but I have a degree from Yale and worked procurement, subcontracts and contracts in the corporate world. I've avoided the most severe risk -- though as you ought to be aware -- risk sometimes permeates into quite conservative investments, particularly when that risk is very well hidden (you were around in 2007 - 2008, right?)

I think your view of survival of the fit would make the folks running credit swaps, losing billions of other peoples money and get paid super big bucks to continue doing it, quite happy indeed. It's their fault. That's what Cain says to.

For some reason you believe that the general population should have an understanding of financial instruments which would make them more competent than most (if not all) of TeaPublican candidates for President. I suppose that isn't all that high a standard looking at the candidates, but still, it seems a bit overmuch.

Do you repair your own car? Your own heating and cooling systems, your own plumbing? Did you build your own house? Just wondering -- in the survival of the fittest modality, you might require a full skill set in the full range of survival skills.

It is called systemic risk. Grandad was a stock broker in '29 ... all the signs were there so cash was king. I'm up from there.

Didn't build the house, but I've done roofing and framing, repaired cars, HVAC, plumbing, electrical and appliances.

You have to know enough to understand when a flim-flam man is taking you for a ride. That applies to money and politics as much as anything else, even internet phising. It doesn't mean you will never get burnt because that is impossible, but that you don't always get burnt.

Fair enough, but given the skills of flim-flammery extant today (in politics and finance particularly), it is rather difficult to reliably detect the flim-flam artist today. That means not only do a large number of people get burned, but that entire economies and polities get burned.

POTUS aka The Speechifyer is REVVVED UP! Messiah is Doubling Down on His Zombies.

Again, People who are Swayed by A Great Speaker(not a Great Speech) are again heading for The Entrance To The Underground Morlock Sanctuary.

Where Everything is Built to Last. Like this New Economy The Dem/Libs, Led by The Peace Prize POTUS has Got Going(LOL).

Such a Shame. So Many of The Indies, Repugs, and Certain DEMs who only a few months ago were Wondering how they could have made Such A Mistake in Voting for Their Savior, are Now, Again, Being Hypnotized by The Speeches. Vacuous, Great Sounding Stuff Spaked To Please the Fearful, Weak-Minded of The Masses.

Say it ain't so Joe The Plumber.

A Good Speech is Built To Last for This POTUS.

The Snake Oil Is Flowing. Drink Up Zombies.

Potus The Pitiful aka His Slimeness(Slick has already been used. Remember Slick Willie?), is Out Slickin' Slick Willie.

Every Issue is Not About Bettering The Country, but All About Getting The Needed Votes for The Second Term.

Big Ears is So Slimey, He makes His Faithful(Zombies) and The Just Plain Dumb(The Swang Voters) Think He Is All About Our Betterment. Slime It Potus. Slime It.
